New Canon Gear on August 17

August 15, 2010 By Eric Reagan

A tipster tells me that Canon will be launching “1 dslr, some lenses and lots of point and shoot” cameras on August 17, which word supposedly comes from a source within Canon.

I don’t think any of this is really groundbreaking as rumors and leaks of the 60D have been flying like crazy lately, and Canon Rumors has pegged the G12, S95, SX30, SX130 and other point and shoots for launch soon.

The date, however, is different than what has previously been mentioned (Aug. 24 or 26).  I guess we’ll know Tuesday.

If you have more info on the announcement details, feel free to pass it along via the contact form (you can put in fake email address if you don’t want to reveal your email).

Canon Press Event

Two days after Sony’s upcoming press event, Canon has also scheduled a press event.  Could this be the official unveiling of the (much leaked) Canon 60D?

Canon 7D Rumors Round-Up

August 27, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Canon 7D

It’s been a pretty busy week with rumors and speculation about the Canon 7D flying all over the place.

Tuesday, September 1 appears to be the announcement date for the Canon 7D. [via Kamera & Bild]

Other tips suggest some features for the Canon 7D:

  • HD video
  • Flip screen
  • Weather sealing commensurate with the 5D Mark II
  • Pro level AF
  • Improved Live AF
  • Target toward sports, bird and wildlife photographers
  • Sports and wildlife photographers may have already been testing it
  • A step up for 40D/50D-series users

Other Canon 7D specs claimed to be very reliable:

  • Dual DIGIC 4
  • Built-in flash master
  • Full HD video
  • APS-C (1.6 Crop)
  • Non-articulating LCD

Canon 7D Parts Photo Leaked?

August 20, 2009 By Eric Reagan

UPDATE: The Canon 7D has been officially announced.  Read more on Photography Bay’s Canon 7D Reviews and Resources. Check availability at Amazon.com.

Canon 7D

Is this an image of the Canon 7D‘s top?  I don’t know, but it looks like a real something…

What’s different from the 5D Mark II?

  • On/Off Switch in a different location (I think I like this better)
  • Pop-up flash
  • New M-Fn button near the front scroll wheel

Other than that, it looks a lot like the current Canon 5D Mark II.

Canon 60D and 1D Mark IV Updates

June 18, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Recent Canon 60D rumors, which would replace the not-so-old Canon 50D, suggest the following:

  • 3″ OLED screen
  • New battery and grip (the BP-511 is getting rather dated)
  • GPS Built-in
  • Wifi as an add-on

Similar spec rumors on the Canon 1D Mark IV:

  • 3″ OLED screen
  • APS-H format
  • 12 frames per second (presumably, it will autofocus properly)
  • GPS Built-in
  • Wifi as an add-on

Canon 60D = Turbocharged 50D?

June 8, 2009 By Eric Reagan

The latest rumors to surface from the never-ending stream of sources over at Canon Rumors pegs the Canon 60D as somewhat of a turbocharged version of the Canon 50D.  Here’s the latest potential spec list:

  • 15.1 megapixels
  • ISO 100-25600
  • 7 fps
  • Digic V
  • Movie-mode: 1080p with 30 and 24fps
  • built in GPS for geo-tagging
  • only a SD-card slot (no CF)
  • 148×109x75mm and 738g

Everything else, remains as-is from the current 50D.  This spec-list is similar to what we’ve seen in previous Canon 60D / 7D rumors.

Granted, those specs don’t make for much of a slouch DSLR.  That 15.1 megapixel sensor has served well in the 50D and the Rebel T1i.  I, for one, would certainly welcome another round of it with improved noise control – particularly after seeing how well the Rebel T1i performs at ISO 3200-6400.  We sure don’t need any more pixels in these crop-sensor DSLRs until we get noise under control and perhaps some better glass to fully take advantage of the resolution.
