Mastering Canon EOS Flash Photography is a new book from NK Guy that, as the title implies, focuses on the Canon EOS Speedlite system.  It is intended as an authoritative resource for the Canon E-TTL Speedlite system, and includes diagrams and sample photos to demonstrate techniques.

Mastering Canon EOS Flash Photography carries a retail price tag of $44.95; however, it can be found for $29.67 on Amazon.com.

Tamron Announces 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens

Tamron 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD

Tamron has announced the development of a new 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD for Nikon, Canon and Sony mounts. The new lens is the first from Tamron to incorporate Ultrasonic Silent Drive AF motor for faster autofocus.  Additionally, the lens will include Tamron’s Vibration Compensation (except for Sony mount) to reduce shake-induced blur in images.

Tamron will release the Nikon mount version first, and then follow on with Canon and Sony versions.  Tamron has not announced a price for the lens at this time; however, it matches up squarely against the Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/4-5.6 VR and the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, both of which are in the $500 range.

Canon Rebel T1i Firmware Update Ver. 1.1.0

The Canon Rebel T1i has received a firmware update to version 1.1.0.  The new firmware addresses the following issues:

  1. Enhances the reliability of Live View shooting
  2. Fixes incorrect indications on the Arabic, English, and Swedish menu screens

Canon Digital Photo Professional Updated

Canon has updated its Digital Photo Professional software to version 3.8 and 3.8.1 for Windows and Mac users, respectively.  The new version of DPP ships with the Canon Rebel T2i and includes other new features and enhancements. Additionally, Canon has updated several ancillary software products as follows:

EOS Utility 2.8.1
Picture Style Editor 1.7.0
WFT Utility 3.5.1
Original Data Security Tools 1.8.0

The updated software is available from Canon’s Download Library.

Canon Rebel T2i Availability Update: In Stock

The recently announced Canon Rebel T2i is currently in stock at B&H Photo here.

It also looks like Adorama has the Rebel T2i in stock.  Amazon is still showing it as a pre-order; however, that should change soon if both B&H and Adorama have it on hand.

This is the first shipment of the Rebel T2i since it was announced, so it may not last long.

Canon Rebel XS Instant Rebates

Canon has introduced some big rebates for the Rebel XS, which takes it into the sub-$500 territory for the basic kit. The rebates get bigger when you add telephoto lenses to the kit.

The rebates of $70 and $170 for the various kits lead to the final price points noted below.  The instant rebates expire on March 13, 2010.
