Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 Replacement Coming Soon?

Canon Rumors received a tip that a new 50mm lens is coming soon. While there are no specifics as to whether it is a replacement for the current 50mm f/1.4 or 50mm f/1.2 lens, the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens is over 30 years old and is ripe for replacement.

Canon Rumors rates this as a credible rumor and it’s certainly a needed replacement. So, hopefully, we’ll see something sooner rather than later.

Canon EOS C500 4K Cinema Camera Drops to $9,999

The Canon EOS C500 4K cinema camera has dropped from $15,999 to $9,999, which is a solid price considering that it launched for $30,000 in 2012 and it is a 10-bit 4K RAW camera that is almost ready to shoot out of the box.

Sure, Canon is rumored to launch a new EOS Cinema camera that shoots 8K video around NAB next month, but it won’t be under $10K and it likely won’t be on shelves for a few months anyway. Check out the discounted EOS C500 in EF or PL mounts here at B&H Photo.

Canon EF 28mm f/1.4L Patent Tease

A recently-published patent filing reveals a Canon 28mm f/1.4 lens possibly in the works. There is no 28mm fast L lens in Canon’s line-up so that would be a nice addition to the line to slot in between the EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM and the EF 35mm f/1.4L USM lenses.

Of course, a patent filing doesn’t necessarily mean a lens is imminent but these filings have been a pretty good barometer for lenses in the past. Note that this patent was filed in 2014 and just published this month.

Watch this Canon 1D X Mark II 4K Video “Freedom”

The 4K-capable Canon 1D X Mark II is due out next month and Canon continues to release promo material for the camera. The latest is the above short, Freedom, which is available for 4K viewing.

The 1D X Mark II can capture 4K footage at up to 60 fps and 1080p footage a up to 120 fps. It can also grab 8.8MP still frames from the 4K footage. The 1D X Mark II is available for pre-order for $5999.
