Canon Rebel T5i Review

July 9, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Canon Rebel T5i

The Canon Rebel T5i (aka 700D outside the US) follows the solid Rebel T4i, which followed the solid Rebel T3i, and so on. The thing about about the Rebel series in the recent iterations is that it seems like Canon is getting rather lazy and predictable with its flagship cameras in the Rebel lineup. [Read more…]

Canon EOS M Listed as Discontinued

July 6, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Discontinued EOS M

Adorama is the first retailer that I am aware of to list the Canon EOS M as discontinued. Searching for “EOS M” on Adorama’s site automatically directs you to a page containing discontinued items, and only displays used items. Additionally, the previous product listing for the EOS M now says “We are sorry, this item is no longer available.”

Perhaps the recent $299 fire sale for Canon EOS M kits depleted Adorama’s supply?

B&H and Amazon are currently back-ordered on this kit; however, you can still order at $299.

Additionally, the EOS M kit with 18-55mm lens for $349 is in stock at both B&H and Amazon.

If you have been thinking about picking up one of these very discounted prices, you may not have much time left to find one at all.

Canon EOS M Kits as Low as $299 – Deal Alert

July 3, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Canon-EOS-M-Black

The Canon EOS M just got a massive instant rebate deal at B&H. The EOS M with EF-M 22mm f/2 STM lens is now $299 (reg. $599). Check it out here at B&H Photo.

The EOS M with EF-M 18-55MM F/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens is now $349 (reg. $599). Check it out here at B&H Photo.

These deal prices are good through July 9, 2013.

While my initial Canon EOS M review was highly critical of the AF speed on this camera, Canon’s recent firmware update for the EOS M appears to have resolved my primary complaint. As a result, these look like some solid deals on this compact mirrorless shooter.

‘Adrift’ Timelapse is Mesmerizing View of the Fog of the San Francisco Bay Area

July 2, 2013 By Eric Reagan

[vimeo https://vimeo.com/69445362 w=640&h=360]

This gorgeous timelapse film was created from footage captured over the course of 2 years around the San Francisco Bay area. Simon Christen spent many mornings on the Marin Headlands capturing scene by scene of what he calls “a love letter to the fog of the San Francisco Bay Area.”

He shot these images with the Canon 7D and Canon 4oD in raw format with exposures generally occurring every 2-10 seconds. Exposure was set in manual mode. On the last shot with the fog engulfing the camera, both the he and camera got pretty well soaked due to all of the moisture from the dense fog.

He uses a sturdy Really Right Stuff tripods for keeping the shots steady and, when necessary, uses software stabilization in After Effects to smooth out some shots.

You can view more of Simon’s work here on his website.
