Rokinon 16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS Lens Available for Pre-Order

Rokinon’s new 16mm f/4 ED AS UMC CS lens is now available for pre-order for $479 with expected availability on August 8. This lens is built for APS-C sensors. As such, the Canon EF-S version offers a field of view equivalent to 25.6mm on a full frame camera. While Nikon, Sony, Fuji X-Series and other APS-C cameras will get a 24mm equivalent field of view. New Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens Unveiled

Canon has released a new lens for the EOS M system. The Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens becomes the third lens in the EF-M series – accompanied by the 18-55mm standard zoom and 22mm f/2 lenses that were released alongside the original EOS M camera last summer (read our Canon EOS M review).

On the APS-C sensor of the EOS M, the new 11-22mm lens provides the full frame equivalent coverage of roughly 18-35mm. Of course, as you can tell from the lens name acronyms, it features built-in image stabilization (Canon cites 3-stop shutter speed advantage) and the new STM motor for quite operation during video capture.

The EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens has a .15m minimum focus distance and features a retractable lens design, along with a manual focus ring.

90 Million Canon Lenses in the Wild

Canon rolled its 90 millionth lens off the production line last week on May 23, 2013 – with the very popular EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM be the lucky lady. This big milestone comes less than 10 months after Canon produced its 80 millionth lens in August 2012. Canon hit the 60 million and 70 million EF lens milestone in 2011.

Canon EF Lens Production Timeline

  • 1987: EF lens production begins
  • 1995: 10 million lenses
  • 2001: 20 million lenses
  • 2006: 30 million lenses
  • 2008: 40 million lenses
  • 2009: 50 million lenses
  • Jan. 2011: 60 million lenses
  • Oct. 2011: 70 million lenses
  • Aug. 2012: 80 million lenses
  • May 2013: 90 million lenses

At this pace, expect that 100 million lens milestone to happen in early 2014, maybe even faster if Canon makes something hot happen with the EOS M system later this year.
