Tonight’s Episode of House Shot Entirely with Canon 5D Mark II

May 17, 2010 By Eric Reagan

House - 5D Mark II

The season finale of House is on tonight.  Normally, that wouldn’t be news for Photography Bay.  However, it’s a bit different because the entire episode was filmed with the Canon 5D Mark II and Canon EF lenses.

You can catch a preview of the episode here.

I can’t say I’ve ever watched an episode of the show, but I think I’ll join in tonight just out of the curiosity factor.  The show starts at 8PM ET / PT. [Read more…]

Sony Interchangeable Lens HD Camcorder With APS Sensor Coming

May 11, 2010 By Eric Reagan

It was only a matter of time.

With overwhelming success of the Canon 5D Mark II and subsequent video-capable DSLRs, it was only a matter of time before someone broke the mold and put a DSLR-sized sensor in a true camcorder body.  I suspect that Canon and Nikon are both working on a similar concept; however, it looks as if Sony may be the first one out of the gate.

Sony has announced that it is working on a camcorder based on the 14.2MP CMOS sensor found in the newly announced NEX-5 and NEX-3.  The camcorder will allow the new Sony E-mount lenses to be used, as well as existing Alpha-mount lenses. [Read more…]

DIY Wooden HDDSLR Shoulder Rig With Follow Focus

May 6, 2010 By Eric Reagan

DIY DSLR Wooden Shoulder Rig from Jonathan Clifford Bergqvist on Vimeo.

I’ve seen some clever DIY setups for HDDSLR rigs and focus pullers; however, Jonathan Bergqvist’s wooden rendition for his Canon 7D in the above video takes the cake. The integrated focus puller on the left handle is really a nice touch.

Vincent Laforet on HDDSLR Cinema Happening Now on CreativeLIVE

April 30, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Vincent Laforet HDDSLR Cinema

Remember when creativeLIVE launched earlier this month?  There have been a lot of great courses since it launched, but I’m watching Vincent Laforet’s course, “An Introduction to HDDSLR Cinema” right now, and I gotta tell ya, it’s good stuff.  It’s also free while it’s live.

If you’ve missed the first day today, it looks like they are doing a re-watch stream of the entire class tonight starting at 11PM ET.  Laforet has got content going for the next two days as well, so you might want to shelve Photoshop CS5 for just a bit and tune into creativeLIVE to learn the ins and outs of your HDDSLR if that’s something you’ve been curious about.

Here’s the link: creativeLIVE.com

Finally, if you can’t tune in this weekend, you can pre-order the video of the full weekend class for $79.  If you wait until after the class is over on Sunday, it goes up to $129.  Having watched it for the past few hours, I can assure you that it’s more than worth the $79 if you are new to shooting video with an HDDSLR camera – and there’s gonna be two more full days of content.
