In what could be the biggest camera launch of the year, one of Nikon Rumors’ sources has tipped the launch of the Nikon D4 and D400 for August.
Given the coming Sony A77 with a 24MP sensor, it is most likely that the D400 will sport the same 24MP APS-C sensor but labeled with the ubiquitous “Developed by Nikon” asterisk seen in recent Nikon pro-DSLR specs. The D400 will almost certainly feature 1080p video to follow the recent trend of Nikon DSLRs. Hopefully, the D400 will avoid the cumbersome aperture adjustment problem that made the Nikon D7000 more frustrating for video capture.

The road to the eventual release of the Sony A77 has been a long one – with Sony gradually revealing more info about the camera, including mockups and rough specifications. I don’t think I’ve had more fun with a camera since I first held the 5D Mark II. Sure, it’s got some quirks, but the excellent image quality and amazing flash sync speed push the Fuji X100 into the front runner position as my personal pick for camera of the year. A recently published Nikon patent application shows that Nikon is working on implementing programmed focus pulls in video-capable cameras.
Essentially, the patent application describes the process of setting a starting focus point on the camera’s LCD and then an ending focus point. The camera will then automatically (and smoothly) rack focus between the two points as you record video. [Read more…]
Regardless of your current skill level, you have probably used the little green square mode on a camera at some point. This green square (or little green camera) mode is commonly referred to as the full auto shooting mode.
Many times, when you are shooting in this mode, you get great photos. Other times though, your images don’t quite come out the way you envisioned them when looking through the viewfinder. Maybe they are too dark on a person’s face, maybe the thing you want to be in focus is out of focus, or maybe the colors just don’t look right.
