Sony is expected to announce a refresh to the Sony A77 on May 1, next week. Additionally, it looks like a refresh to the popular Sony Cyber-shot RX100 II might be announced as well given that the Sony RX100M3 was listed in the product manual for the AG-R2 attachment grip (likely a replacement for the AG-R1) alongside the RX100 and RX100 II.
Expect more details soon.

Sony A77 Close Up
What appears to be a Sony A77 commercial has found its way onto YouTube. In the short video spot, you see the 24MP A77 half-buried in sand (obviously showing off its extreme weather sealing). Then someone comes along, picks up the camera, dusts it off and commences to shoot using the live view display.

The Sony A77 was briefly featured on a nomination page for the Good Design Expo starting later this month in Tokyo. The listing confirmed several key features for the new A77, including a 24MP Exmor CMOS image sensor powered by a new BIONZ processor that will help the A77 deliver a whopping 12fps in full resolution stills. Sony A77
August is shaping up to be a pretty huge month for now prosumer/pro camera gear. In addition to Nikon’s announcement, it looks like August 24 will be Sony’s big announcement date for the new Alpha models (A77 and A65) and NEX models (NEX-7 and NEX-5N).
After the big announcement from Sony, the A77 and NEX-7 are expected to be available in Japan in September – with US availability coming in October.

In what could be the biggest camera launch of the year, one of Nikon Rumors’ sources has tipped the launch of the Nikon D4 and D400 for August.
Given the coming Sony A77 with a 24MP sensor, it is most likely that the D400 will sport the same 24MP APS-C sensor but labeled with the ubiquitous “Developed by Nikon” asterisk seen in recent Nikon pro-DSLR specs. The D400 will almost certainly feature 1080p video to follow the recent trend of Nikon DSLRs. Hopefully, the D400 will avoid the cumbersome aperture adjustment problem that made the Nikon D7000 more frustrating for video capture.

The road to the eventual release of the Sony A77 has been a long one – with Sony gradually revealing more info about the camera, including mockups and rough specifications.
