PocketWizard MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 Support for 5D Mark III May Arrive in 2 Weeks

August 29, 2012 By Eric Reagan

PocketWizard has provided an update on the MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 support for the 5D Mark III.  I know a lot of you are interested in this update because I’ve received numerous questions about it since the recent PocketWizard firmware update for Nikon models added support for the D800 and D4.

They currently have a firmware version that looks promising and are in the process of testing all of the features with all Canon DSLR models to ensure support across the product line.  The guys at PocketWizard have literally stopped answering the phones, checking email and answering questions on Facebook in order to finalize this firmware update and get it out the door.

Right now, their hope is to have a release “within the next couple of weeks” but no promises on a firm date.

Stay tuned for the latest.

PocketWizard MiniTT1 Transmitter and FlexTT5 Transceiver ControlTL Firmware Version 5.0 for Canon

December 30, 2009 By Eric Reagan

PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver

PocketWizard has updated the firmware for the Canon version of the MiniTT1 Transmitter and FlexTT5 Transceiver.

The new firmware adds several new capabilities to the wireless system.  Two of the big ones are Rear Curtain Sync and Pre-Flash Boost:

“PocketWizard’s rear curtain sync allows the photographer to set the shutter speed at which rear curtain sync automatically engages while optimizing the timing of rear curtain sync to fire at the absolute end of the shutter opening. Pre-Flash Boost provides enhanced E-TTL performance when using flash diffusers, doing bounce flash, or at ranges just beyond the normal E-TTL capabilities. By increasing the pre-flash power, PocketWizard has offset the loss of light in these challenging E-TTL situations.” –PocketWizard

The new firmware also adds automatic camera detection, which allows the system to determine appropriate sync speed for High Speed Sync mode.  Compatibility for the Canon 7D has been added, along with compatibility for the Metz 58 AF-1.

Additional details about the updated firmware are available in a PDF file from PocketWizard, which can be viewed here.

Download info for the firmware can be found here.

PocketWizard FlexTT5 and MiniTT1

February 16, 2009 By Eric Reagan

PocketWizard has dropped a bomb in the lighting world with their new FlexTT5 and MiniTT1. The big deal about these off-camera flash triggers is the ability to operate in TTL mode on Canon and Nikon cameras at an extended range using radio waves.

Pricing will be roughly $199 for the MiniTT1 and $219 for the FlexTT5 and will be available in March for Canon models and in the Second Quarter of 2009 for Nikon models. You order them at Amazon via the following links:

PocketWizard MiniTT1 Radio Transmitter for Canon TTL Flashes and Digital SLR Cameras

Pocket Wizard FlexTT5 Transceiver For Nikon TTL Flashes and Digital SLR Cameras

PocketWizard MiniTT1 Radio Transmitter for Nikon TTL Flashes and Digital SLR Cameras

The above video from PocketWizard does a great job of explaining the features that the FlexTT5 and MiniTT1 offer over the older Plus II and MultiMax models. Additionally, I will refer you to the Strobist himself, who has spent some hands-on time with these new models and seems to be quite impressed with their capabilities. Rob Galbraith also has a thorough write up of his hands-on experience with the new PocketWizards, though you won’t find the same witty commentary as the Strobist post. Chase Jarvis adds to the mix of commentary as well. Finally, you’ll find more details in the press release below. [Read more…]
