The Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS lens has been rumored to be replaced for over quite some time now. One of the common complaints of the about the lens is the push-pull zoom design, which leads it to be regarded as a “dust sucker.” Additionally, the lens is rather slow at the long end of the zoom at f/5.6; however, that allows it to remain compact in spite of its long zoom range. Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8E FL ED VR Lens Announced for $12K

Nikon has announced its new AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8E FL ED VR lens as a follow up to the popular Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8G ED VR lens (at $9k).

  • New professional grade telephoto option for professional and passionate photographers
  • Nearly two pounds lighter, yet more durable than its predecessor; ideal for shooting sports, action and wildlife
    • Improved AF, exposure accuracy and speed.
  • Vibration Reduction (VR) technology with up to four stops of image stabilization
  • Contains two fluorite elements, two Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass elements and Nano Crystal Coat

Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM and EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lenses Officially Unveiled

After plenty of leaks, the Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM and EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM lenses have been officially announced. As expected, the 16-35mm f/4L IS USM lens comes in at a significantly higher price point ($1199) than the non-stabilized EF 17-40mm f/4L USM lens.

However, a nice surprise for Canon APS-C shooters is that the EF-S 10-18mm lens comes in at a very affordable $299. The 10-18mm zoom range (16-28.8mm full frame equivalent) mates nicely with Canon’s current affordable EF-S 18-55mm and 55-250mm lenses, both of which also feature the new STM focus motor.

Samyang Unveils 5 New Lenses

Samyang has announced a new 35mm f/1.4 lens available in Canon mount with auto exposure, though it is still a manual focus lens. Additionally, a new 300mm f/6.3 mirror lens will be available in Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony A and Micro 4/3 mounts.

Alongside the new still photography lenses, Samyang also announced a trio of cine lenses for mirrorless cameras – Samyang 10mm T3.1, 12mm T2.2 and 7.5mm T3.8 lenses. All of the lenses are cinema versions of previously-existing still lenses. Now, they feature the standard gearing on aperture and focus rings.

Canon Hong Kong has posted a teaser image for what is believed to be a new lens announcement on April 24 (that’s this Thursday). Tamron’s New 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DI II VC PZD MACRO Lens Priced, Available in May

Tamron has announced pricing and availability for its new 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DI II VC PZD MACRO lens. The lens follows the popular 18-270mm model, stretching the focal length at both ends of the zoom range for a 18.8x total zoom range. The new 16-300mm model retails for $629 and should be available mid-May (B&H says on May 15) and is available for pre-order for Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts. Check it out here at B&H Photo.
