Homemade Soft Boxes

I recently decided that I wanted to take my food photography up to another level, and in order to really make that work, I needed some soft boxes to better diffuse light.

The problem was that all of the available soft boxes I could find cost upwards of $100 apiece (and I would certainly need at least two soft boxes to make my setup work). 3 New LED Lights from Fotodiox are Lightweight with Barn Doors

Fotodiox has announced three new high-intensity LED lights: the Fotodiox LED-312D, LED-312DS, and LED-1024AL.

The LEDs are upgrades to its past best sellers, and come complete with all-metal barn doors that lock on and stay in place no matter how it’s mounted, to shape and control lighting.

The LED-312D is a daylight balanced light  at 5600K with a CRI of 92 with variable intensity, while the LED-312DS is a variable temperature light.

New Impact Ready Cool Lights are Fluorescent Video Lights on the Cheap

B&H is now selling Impact Ready Cool continuous fluorescent lights, which are available in 2-bulb and 4-bulb configurations.

Each fluorescent bulb offers 55 watts output. The Ready Cool 2 lamp version delivers the equivalent output of roughly a 500w tungsten light, while the Ready Cool 4 lamp version is equivalent to a roughly 1000w hot light. Lamp life is estimated at 8000 hours.

The Ready Cool 2 lamp version is available for $169.95, and the Ready Cool 4 lamp version is available for for $394.95 (currently on sale for $344.95). Both units ship with bulbs and a padded carrying case. Check them out here at B&H Photo.

RadioPopper Nano Flash Trigger Unveiled for $69.95

RadioPopper has released its new Nano transmitter and receiver units at a low price point of just $69.95 each. With a max range of over 1750′, the Nano sports four channels for dumb slave triggering to a hot shoe or a sync port.


One receiver can trigger two lights simultaneously by using both the hot shoe and sync port. The RadioPopper Nano is also compatible with the RadioPopper RP, PX and JrX units. You can find the RadioPopper Nano here at Adorama.
