Olympus E-M5 Retro Micro Four Thirds Shooter Announced

The Olympus E-M5 is the new OM-D series camera that builds on 40-years of the Olympus OM SLR series, as well as the Micro Four Thirds success that Olympus has found in recent years.

The E-M5 features a 16.1MP Live MOS sensor, a built-in electronic viewfinder and max sensitivity to ISO 25,600.  Additionally, the E-M5 will capture 1080i HD video.

The E-M5 should be available in April for $999 (body only), $1099 with a 14-42mm kit lens, or $1299 with a 12-50mm kit lens.  Check availability at B&H Photo and Amazon.

Olympus ED 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 EZ Lens

Olympus has unveiled the ED 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 EZ lens for its Micro Four Thirds cameras. The new lens covers a 24-100mm equivalent field of view on full frame cameras and is optimized for HD video capture via a motorized zoom and quiet AF motor.

The Olympus ED 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 EZ should be available in January 2012 at an initial retail price of $499.99.  Check availability on Amazon.

Panasonic Lumix GX1

The Panasonic Lumix GX1 is a new Micro Four Thirds camera that steps up from the GF-series.  The GX1 features a 16MP image sensor, 1080/60i AVCHD video capture and a 3-inch touchscreen display.  The GX1 offers a sensitivity range of ISO 160-12800 and is compatible with the new LVF2 electronic viewfinder (a 1.44-million dot resolution viewfinder).

The Panasonic Lumix GX1 should be available in December at an initial retail price from $699 for body only, $799 with a standard kit lens, or $949 with an X-series kit lens.  Check availability on Amazon.com.

Along with the new LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 14-42mm lens, Panasonic has also introduced a new LUMIX G “X” telephoto zoom lens, the LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 45-175mm/F4.0-5.6 ASPH./POWER O.I.S. lens.

The 45-175mm lens offers a electric-powered zoom operation, a first of its kind.  On the Micro Four Thirds cameras, the new lens offers an equivalent field of view of 90-350mm on a full frame camera. [Read more…]

Olympus E-PM1 Kit Priced at $499

The recently-announced Olympus E-PM1 has been officially priced at $499 and will include a 14-42mm kit lens.

As a refresher, the E-PM1 is the smallest of the PEN series cameras.  It features a 12.3MP Micro Four Thirds image sensor, 1080i HD video capture and a sensitivity range up to ISO 12800.

The E-PM1 should start shipping in September.
