Convergent Design Unveils Apollo Portable Multicam Recorder

Convergent Design has announced Apollo, which is a portable HD multicam recorder/switcher that captures up to four simultaneous HD video signals over SDI inputs (one can be HDMI). Additionally, it will record a fifth HD channel of a live switch program feed among the four channels or a quad-split reference view. (Also, some exciting news for Odyssey7Q+ users below). Video: FCP X Multicam Demo Shows Off Its Efficiency

At the recent Boston Creative Pro User Group (formerly Final Cut Pro User Group) meet, editor Ben Consoli showed off his work flow for multicam edits in Final Cut Pro X. Consoli jumped on the FCP X bandwagon early on and has since moved his entire studio to FCP X exclusively.  [Read more…]

LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt w/ SSD Hits 635MB/s

LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt SSD

LaCie has announced the latest model to join its Little Big Disk Thunderbolt Series. Built for video professionals, the LaCie Little Big Disk now includes SATA III SSDs that boast speeds up to 635MB/s read speeds – a 33 percent increase from the previous model. For comparison, I got 231MB/s read speeds out of the WD Thunderbolt Duo drive (still very fast).

The Little Big Disk 1TB SSD dips below $1.00 per gigabyte (pretty solid for an external SSD drive) and includes a Thunderbolt cable. [Read more…]

Final Cut Pro X Puts On Big Boy Pants, Adds Mulitcam for Ver. 10.0.3

Final Cut Pro X Multicam

Final Cut Pro X just got a fresh update to version 10.0.3, which includes multicam editing support for up to 64 cameras.  Additionally, the multicam support takes full advantage of the automatic audio sync.
