Fuji X-T1 and X-Pro2 Coming to CP+ and Photokina

A tipster points to CP+ in February as the release timeframe for the rumored Fuji X-T1. Additionally, the X-Pro2 (successor to the popular X-Pro1) is being saved for Photokina in September according to our tipster.

The Photokina release for the X-Pro2 seems quite a stretch to me, since it was rumored to be pushed back from CES earlier this month. Of course, we’ll know soon enough if it doesn’t show up in February at CP+.

Canon Medium Format System to be Part of EOS Family?

Rumors of a medium format system in the works for Canon continue to churn as we are still a year away from the anticipated release at Photokina 2014. Keith over at Northlight Images has received word that the rumored medium format system from Canon will be part of the EOS system, “since a key aspect of the MF project is how it positions the Canon camera brand ‘as a whole’ in the market in years to come.”

The EOS branding makes lots of sense given the recent addition of the EOS M line. Additional rumors suggested that current EF lenses would be compatible with Canon EOS medium format bodies; however, that doesn’t seem quite right given the image circle and flange distance requirements. It seems more likely that Canon medium format lenses would be compatible with the EF mount for the current DSLR formats.

The latest rumors on the Canon medium format camera suggest that Canon will hold off unveiling a medium format camera until Photokina 2014. The reasoning in the rumors is that Canon does not want to launch until there are enough products in the line to unveil a complete system – with the intent to have a “show stealing” announcement at Photokina 2014 next September. A fews after the Canon/Phase One medium format rumors surfaced, we now have a gaggle of confirmations and denials about such a camera. One source noted that Canon was certainly going to make it happen and the Canon medium format move would get a very big announcement at Photokina 2014.

Nothing concrete has surfaced anywhere in the rumor mill. At this point, we are still waiting for something more solid to come along.
