Sony RX100 Review

November 1, 2012 By Eric Reagan

The Sony Cyber-shot RX100 is a 20MP point and shoot camera.  But this isn’t just any point and shoot camera.  The RX100 sets itself apart from every other compact camera out there thanks to a much larger image sensor, which measures the same size as the Nikon 1 Series mirrorless camera system.  Somehow, Sony managed to cram that sensor into a pocketable digicam.

Read on to find out if that big sensor combined with the rest of the RX100 features is enough to make this camera the king of pocket cams. [Read more…]

Sony NEX-EA50 Video Hands-On Demo

September 1, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Sony NEX-EA50

The new Sony NEX-EA50 was quite the surprise when Sony unveiled it a couple of weeks ago.  Dan Chung of DSLR News Shooter recently got a hands-on demo of the new APS-C powered, ENG-style camera at the BIRTV show in Beijing.

Check out the video below for a walkthrough of the NEX-EA50’s features. [Read more…]

ioSafe Extreme Rugged Hard Drive Review

August 21, 2012 By Eric Reagan

ioSafe Extreme

The ioSafe Extreme is a portable, bus-powered hard drive that is built like a tank.  It is available in 500GB or 1TB capacities with a 5400RPM spinning drive, or with a SSD drive from 120GB-600GB capacities.  The latest models are USB 3.0 only; however, the model that I reviewed was a FW800 with a 5400RPM 1TB drive inside.

The enclosure is a solid aluminum enclosure that matches up nicely with current generation Mac products.  Moreover, the aluminum enclosure is crush resistant up to 2500 lbs, while the available titanium enclosure is crush proof up to 5000 lbs.  Essentially, you can run over these things with a car and it will still function properly. Canon Rebel T4i Hands-On Video

This video from Imaging Resource shows off some of the new features on the Rebel T4i.  The smooth video autofocus you see at the end of the video comes courtesy of the new STM lenses.  Right now, there are only 2 STM lenses available – the EF 40mm f/2.8 STM and the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM, both of which were announced alongside the T4i.

Canon 7D Hardcore Durability Test

May 14, 2012 By Eric Reagan

While the above test from Digital Rev is not quite the serious endeavor, I’m still quite amazed at the abuse the Canon 7D took and the functionality it retained after the fact.

Panasonic GX1 Review

May 6, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Panasonic GX1

The Panasonic Lumix GX1 is a compact Micro Four Thirds camera that features a 16MP image sensor, a 3-inch touchscreen LCD and captures 1080/60i AVCHD video.

The GX1 is one of the mirrorless cameras that really pushes the compact nature of the mirrorless format, while retaining a large image sensor.  Combined with the ultra-compact 14-42mm power zoom lens, the GX1 delivers near-DSLR performance in an almost-pocketable form factor. [Read more…]
