Fusion 8 VFX Software Free Public Beta Now Available

September 7, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Fusion 8

Fusion 8 is a powerful VFX program that is used on tons of Hollywood films like Maleficent, Edge of Tomorrow, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, The Amazing Spider-man 2 and The Hunger Games trilogy, as well as hit TV shows like Battlestar Galactica and Orphan Black.

Before Blackmagic Design purchased Eyeon (the previous developer of Fusion), version 7 was planned to retail for $2500. Version 6 launched at $5000.

Blackmagic released version 7 for Windows for free – with a Fusion 7 Studio version available for $995. Fusion 8 will continue that trend and, for the first time will be available for Mac OS X, as well as Windows. [Read more…]

Blackmagic Fusion 7 VFX Software Now Running on Mac OS X

April 2, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Fusion 7 on Mac OS X

Late last year, Blackmagic Design unveiled Fusion 7 for Windows and made it free with a Studio version available for $995 with additional features. That was a big deal because it was previously a $5,000 application for high-end VFX work on Hollywood films like Maleficent, Edge of Tomorrow, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, The Amazing Spider-man 2 and The Hunger Games, as well as hit TV shows like Battlestar Galactica and Orphan Black.

Of course, we wondered at the time when Mac OS X support would be available. Well, it’s not quite on the market for Mac yet, but Blackmagic is already showing off support for OS X and will have more details available at NAB 2015 in just over a week.

After watching the Academy Awards a couple weeks ago and the Life After Pi documentary recently, I was reminded of a great presentation at the CPUG Supermeet during NAB 2013. Somehow that slipped through the cracks last year and I never wrote about it.

The Future of Visual Effects-7

With NAB 2014 just around the corner, I wanted to take the opportunity to pass along this presentation put on by industry veterans Scott Ross and Scott Squires. While we cover mostly stills photography news and gear around the year, NAB each April brings a lot of news in the video industry. [Read more…]
