Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di USD Lens for Sony Alpha Cameras Now In Stock

May 7, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Tamron 24-70mm

The Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di USD lens for Sony Alpha mount is now shipping. Interestingly, the lens carries the same $1299 price tag for the Sony Alpha version even though it does not offer the Vibration Compensation function feature found in the Canon and Nikon versions.

(For those unfamiliar with Sony Alpha cameras, they feature sensor-based image stabilization and, therefore, do not require a lens-based image stabilization function.)

You can find the Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di USD lens for Sony Alpha mount here at B&H Photo.

Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD Lens Announced

February 6, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Tamron SP 24-70mm f2.8 Di VC USD

Tamron has announced a nice-looking 24-70mm f/2.8 lens that has image stabilization (or “Vibration Compensation” as Tamron says) built into it.  The new lens has a silent drive AF that should put into the conversation with Sigma’s 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, as well as an alternative to the Canon and Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses.

I don’t think any other manufacturers offer a stabilized 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, so this makes Tamron somewhat unique.  Surprisingly, it weighs 825g, which puts it in the same weight category as other 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses – and it is, in fact, lighter than some of them.

Tamron hasn’t announced any pricing for the new lens; however, the feature-set and touted quality lead me to believe it will be at or above the $1000-mark.  When it is made available, you should be able to find it for Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts.

Tamron Announces 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens

March 9, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Tamron 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD

Tamron has announced the development of a new 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD for Nikon, Canon and Sony mounts. The new lens is the first from Tamron to incorporate Ultrasonic Silent Drive AF motor for faster autofocus.  Additionally, the lens will include Tamron’s Vibration Compensation (except for Sony mount) to reduce shake-induced blur in images.

Tamron will release the Nikon mount version first, and then follow on with Canon and Sony versions.  Tamron has not announced a price for the lens at this time; however, it matches up squarely against the Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/4-5.6 VR and the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, both of which are in the $500 range.

More details in the press release below. [Read more…]
