This cool Canon commercial from Korea shows off the impressive size of the Canon Rebel SL1 (aka Canon 100D). I was impressed with the Rebel SL1 in my initial hands-on review and remain impressed with it after spending a few weeks with it. Expect a full review soon.

This is a crazy operation in Russia where a group of thieves coordinate to distract a photographer while taking what looks like his Nikon 70-200 right off the camera that’s handing on his neck.
At first, we see the photographer/tourist approached by a group of people putting things in front of him in an attempt to distract.
Then, one of the thieves slips his hands under the papers held up and removes the lens. [Read more…]
It looks like Canon has finally developed a live view and video AF system for its DSLRs that will be useful with the new Canon 70D. These embedded demo videos come from the Polish site Optyczne. They show off the new 70D’s Dual Pixel AF system with the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens and the EF 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro lens.

Here’s a short video from Jay P. Morgan (of The Slanted Lens) on using a one light setup. Interestingly, he is shooting a model with a Canon 1D C with 4K video and pulling stills from the video frames. The wildly popular, retro photo sharing service, Instagram, now allows users to record video and share it on your account. While this feature is similar to Twitter’s Vine app, you get a 15 second cap on Instagram as opposed to 6 seconds on Vine. [Read more…]
Here’s a great little trick for getting some motion in your video shots even if you don’t have a slider or a jib. I’ve used a tripod tilted up on two legs quite a bit for cheating dolly-in and dolly-out shots, but the Fenchel & Janisch folks take it a step further with movements along other axes for some cool jib-esque shots. The suggestion of shooting a higher frame rate to smooth out any imperfections in the camera movement when conformed to a lower frame rate is good as well.

The Zoom H4n has been a staple of the HDSLR dual-system audio realm since the introduction of the 5D Mark II.
