Topaz Lens Effects

Topaz Labs recently unveiled its new Lens Effects plug-in for Photoshop.  Lens Effects allows you to apply depth of field effects and other effects to your images during post processing.  Lens Effects uses a depth map for fine tuning out of focus areas, which helps make the depth of field look more natural and optical-based. Photoshop CS5 iPad Apps Now Available

Canon Radio TTL Flash Coming Soon, DSLR w/ Radio Transmitter Too?

Canon may be making that radio trigger flash and DSLR with a built-in transmitter after all.  Recall that I posted the details on Canon’s patent application in August 2010, which covered a radio-signal transmitter and receiver communication between DSLR and Speedlights.

Now Canon Rumors says its been told that Canon has working prototypes of flashes that are triggered via radio communication by an updated version of the ST-E2 transmitter.  Presumably, any new flash from Canon that sports built-in radio TTL communication would unseat the 580 EX II as the flagship Speedlight in Canon’s lineup. NatGeo Photographer Paul Nicklen on TED Talks

Paul Nicklen is renowned Arctic and Antarctic wildlife photographer. Has a passion for these regions and the wildlife within, which is demonstrated by both his photography and words about life there.

In late-2009, I passed along a short video about his encounter with a leopard seal in Antarctica.  While it was only less than 2-minutes long, it was a very powerful video, featuring Nicklen’s world-class photography and a very cool story. [Read more…]

Zeiss Distagon T 35mm F/1.4 ZF.2 Lens Available for Pre-Order

B&H Photo has posted that the Zeiss Distagon T 35mm F/1.4 ZF.2 lens is now available for pre-order for the Nikon F Mount version. Here’s the link.

As is custom at B&H, when something is posted for pre-order, it generally means that stock is on the way and almost ready to ship out to customers.  No word on the Canon version yet.

Sony A77 Listed in Sony’s Repair Guide

The Sony A77 is no secret; however, one of the few pieces of info that we don’t know about the camera is its actual release date (maybe in July).  You know it has to be closing in though since Sony just listed the A77 in its own official repair guide alongside the A55.

Above is a cityscape timelapse video from Dominic Boudreault.  He shot it with a Canon 5D Mark II from late 2010 to early 2011 with locations including Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, New York and Chicago.  Fullscreen the HD version and turn up the volume.
