Tenba announced its refreshed lineup of Roadie rolling photo and laptop cases at CES 2011.  The new Roadie II series of rolling cases are carry-on compatible and built to rugged and weatherproof specifications.  They feature the tough YKK zippers (it really doesn’t get any tougher than YKK) and offer EVA molded interiors.

Available in 3 different sizes, the Roadie II cases can carry medium and large DSLRs, along with super telephoto lenses with hoods and tripod collars attached.  Additionally, dedicated laptop storage areas are designed for quick access through security checkpoints.  The Roadie II Photo/Laptop cases are available at retail prices from $279.95 to $319.95.  You can find Tenba Roadie II rolling cases at B&H Photo.

Massive 750,000 Layer PSD Took 4 Years to Create

January 29, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Digital photo-realist artist extraordinaire, Bert Monroy, spent the past 4 years cooking up this masterpiece of Times Square that serves as a tribute to the “who’s who” in the world of digital imaging.

The flattened image is 6.52GB and was built with almost 3,000 individual Photoshop and Illustrator files.  The image is zoomable on his site if you want to get closer up to personalities like Russel Brown, John Knoll and Scott Kelby (among many others) within the image.

The finished image will be on display at Photoshop World in Orlando, Florida from March 30 to April 1, 2011.

Rode Videomic Pro Compared to Original Videomic

January 28, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Carl from Digital SLR Shooter put together the above comparison video between the new Rode Videomic Pro and the original Rode Videomic.  I’m pretty impressed with the difference the +20db gain setting makes on noise for the new mic.  Thanks for sharing your test Carl. Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to try one out for myself soon.

CES 2011 in About 3 Minutes

January 28, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Can you believe January 2011 is gone?  Where did it go so fast?

A good quarter of my January was spent in Vegas at CES 2011.  I’ve still got tons of stuff to write about – with half a notebook full of notes about new cameras and other gadgetry.  In the mean time, I hope the below video helps relate a little bit of what CES was about. [Read more…]

SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-I SD Card in the Nikon D7000

January 27, 2011 By Eric Reagan

The Nikon D7000 is the first DSLR to take advantage of the new UHS-I SD card specification.  Unfortunately though, it doesn’t appear to take full advantage of that speed potential.  The Nikon D7000’s buffer seems to cap at 10 frames during continuous high speed shooting no matter which SD card is inserted.

I got my hands on the latest SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-I SDHC cards, which are due out in March, to see just how well they worked in this first-generation UHS-I camera.

While the difference between the SanDisk Extreme and Extreme Pro SD cards is marginal in the D7000, there is still an obvious difference.  After capturing the full complement of 10 frames at the D7000’s max frame rate of 6fps, the D7000 delivered the following results with each of the cards. The Sony Cyber-shot TX100V is a 16.2MP ultra-compact camera that offers a 3.5-inch OLED touch screen and captures 1080p HD video.  As was the case with its sibling Cyber-shot HX7V, I had a chance to go hands-on with the TX100V at CES 2011 for a few minutes.  Check out my first impressions, along with some sample photos and video below. Nikon D7000 Confirmed to Use Sony Sensor

January 26, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Tech analysis website, Chipworks, has confirmed that the Nikon D7000 features a 16.2MP Sony sensor. This is almost certainly the same APS-C sensor found in the Sony A55 and A580 cameras.
