B&H Now Offers 10% Rewards on Canon & Nikon DSLRs

December 7, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Canon 7D Mark II

B&H has bumped its rewards offering to 10% back on certain Canon and Nikon DSLRs.

B&H has been doing its rewards program for a year or two now. Typically, we see specials where you will get 2% or 4% rewards when you buy certain products.

The way it works is you get the rewards via email 40-60 days after your purchase. Then, you have 6 months to use this “store credit” (for lack of a better term) before it expires.

Now, B&H is offering a 10% reward on certain Canon and Nikon cameras, which you can find here at B&H Photo.

Specifically, the deals apply to the following models: [Read more…]

Lightroom Mobile is Now Free for Android Users

December 7, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Lightroom-Mobile-for-Android

Previously, you had to be an Adobe Creative Cloud subscriber to make use of Lightroom Mobile for Android. With the new version 1.4 available now in the Google Play Store, Lightroom Mobile is free to use.

Of course, you’ll still not be able to sync files with your desktop Lightroom library, but you can edit, rate and export local photos to your heart’s content on your Android mobile device. Since some Android devices are now supporting DNG file formats, you can also do raw editing with those DNG files in Lightroom Mobile for Android.

For iOS users, Adobe opened up Lightroom Mobile for everyone in version 2.0 released in October of this year. You can find it here in the App Store.

Canon v. Gray Market Retailers Update

December 6, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Canon-Gray-Market-Lawsuit

Canon USA filed an Amended Complaint last week against F & E Trading, LLC (aka Big Value, Inc., Electronics Valley and others) in its ongoing battle against gray market retailers who are undercutting the market in the US on DSLR sales. I have obtained a copy and embedded it at the bottom of this post for those who want to read the fine print. [Read more…]

Western Digital Releases 10TB Helium-Filled Hard Drive

December 3, 2015 By Eric Reagan

ultrastar-he10_web

Western Digital has released a new 3.5″ format 10TB hard drive in the HGST Ultrastar He10. The new 10TB adds to the HelioSeal line of drives that are helium-filled for more efficient operation (56% more efficient that traditional air-filled drives).

The Ultrastar He10 is preceded by 6TB and 8TB versions and is the third-generation in the enterprise line. HGST’s spec sheet rates the data transfer speeds at an impressive 249MB/s for the new 10TB model (up from 225MB/s in the 8TB model). With an annual failure rate of 0.35%, it includes a 5-year reliability warranty.

No word yet on pricing but the 8TB model currently runs $599, so expect it to come in north of that mark when it hits shelves soon.

Samsung’s Long, Hard Road to a Serious & Successful Camera

December 3, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Samsung NX1

The enthusiast digital camera market is a tough one. The consumers can often know more about the cameras being sold than the sales people trying to sell them. Don’t believe me? Go to Best Buy and start asking about the differences between any two cameras. Or, just eavesdrop on a conversation between a salesman and a shopper – I dare you to keep your mouth shut for the duration.

Samsung has been producing cameras with some very exciting features over the past year or so. But it has been far from a smooth road for the consumer electronics giant. [Read more…]
