Panasonic is on a roll lately in the 4K department. Back at CES 2014, we saw the Lumix GH4 Micro Four Thirds 4K camera and the 4K action camera. We saw a 4K VariCam concept camera teased as far back as NAB 2012. Now, we are finally seeing some details on a 4K VariCam model as the camera approaches an official launch. [Read more…]
Feature Request: “Favorite Projects List” on Welcome Screen in Premiere Pro
Every now and then I have a good idea – or at least one that I think is good. Adobe is one of those companies that lets you take your “good ideas” straight to the product teams with a publicly available Feature Request Form.
I probably spend more time in Premiere Pro (the new Creative Cloud version) these days than any other Adobe application, with Lightroom, Media Encoder and Photoshop being next in the list. Premiere Pro is one application that has a truly useful Welcome screen; however, I think it could be better. [Read more…]

SanDisk ‘4K-Ready’ Extreme Pro SD UHS-II Cards Now Available for Pre-Order
SanDisk’s new high-speed Extreme Pro UHS-II cards are now available for pre-order.
Recall that this new line gets its major speed boost from the UHS-II bus interface. Most SD-compatible cameras currently on the market support UHS-I, at best. The only camera so far to support UHS-II is the new Fuji X-T1.
The new SanDisk UHS-II cards offer write speeds up to 250MB/s and read speeds up to 280MB/s. The Speed Class 3 rating delivers a minimum sustained write speed of 30MB/s, which is relevant to video shooters since it allows capture of the compressed 4K video formats we are starting to see on cameras. Expect this to become a bigger theme this year. [Read more…]

Comodo Orbit is a New Hand-held Camera Stabilization Rig Featuring Dual Mechanical Gimbals
The Comodo Orbit is another fresh take in the camera stabilization market. Canon’s Vixia Mini X is a Compact Camcorder with Clean HDMI-Output
Canon has been trying its hand at some cameras and features lately that are a bit out of left field. The PowerShot N and G1 X cameras come to mind. In the same vein of “different” comes the Canon Vixia Mini X, which debuted at CES 2014 last month. Just looking at the camera, you are left scratching your head about who its intended users are and how it should/could be used. [Read more…]
