November 5, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Sony A7 and A7R-3

I remain very impressed with the Sony A7 and A7R full frame mirrorless cameras. Now that DxO Mark results are out, it looks there’s good reason to buy into the hype of these new cameras. The 36MP A7R scored virtually identical in image quality to the Nikon D800 and D800E (both are also 36MP).  [Read more…]

Hasselblad Stellar Special Edition

As if the first round of dolled-up Sony RX100 cameras wasn’t enough, Hasselblad has unveiled 3 additional “special edition” models for the ripe price of $3175 each. Yes, the cameras perform virtually identical to the Sony RX100, but cost 6x the price. While the RX100 is a great camera, it’s not $3175 great.

G-Technology G-Dock ev and G-Drive ev Review

November 4, 2013 By Eric Reagan

G-Tech G-Dock ev

The G-Technology G-Dock ev is a new hard drive dock that is something we could really only dream about (if that) before the arrival of Thunderbolt. The G-Dock features two drive bays that accepts G-Technology G-Drive ev and G-Drive ev PLUS that, once inserted, mount on your system over the G-Dock’s Thunderbolt connection.

The novel feature of the G-Dock is that the G-Drives can be ejected and taken with you for use on the go via a USB 3.0 connection on the “portable” G-Drive ev units. However, the G-Drives connect into the dock via a SATA connection instead of the USB 3.0 used for when the drive is portable. A very slick set-up indeed. [Read more…]
