University of Alabama’s Trademark Lawsuit Against Artist Dismissed

Way back in 2005, the University of Alabama filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against artist Daniel Moore, who created paintings of Alabama football scenes.

These paintings (like the one shown above) included many of the University of Alabama’s properly registered trademarks. Alabama demanded that Moore pay a licensing fee for using the trademarks in his paintings. Moore contended that he was creating artistic portrayals of historical events and, therefore, his works were protected by the First Amendment. [Read more…]

DxO Optics Pro v8.3.2 Adds Support for Canon 70D and Sony RX1R

DxO Labs has updated DxO Optics Pro 8 to version 8.3.2, which adds support for Canon 70D and Sony RX1R files. Additionally, DxO Optics Pro 8.3.2 adds several new DxO Optics Modules for 445 new camera/lens combinations in its library.

This upgrade is free for all owners of DxO Optics Pro 8, as well as for all photographers who acquired a DxO Optics Pro 7 license on or after September 1, 2012.

Tenba Introduces New Messenger DNA Bags

Tenba has unveiled a pair of new Messenger DNA camera bags. The bags feature an urban styling and a security strap to anchor the bag behind the user while riding a bicycle or scooter.

The bags’ exterior is made from a graphite-colored 600 denier Helix fabric with a water repellent coating. The bags also come with a removable rain cover for an extra layer of protection in bad weather. The rain cover is silver on one side (for high visibility) and a more subtle black on the other. [Read more…]

GoPro Hero 3+ Unveiled

GoPro has announced a refresh to its Hero 3 camera with the Hero 3+.

It is a mild upgrade to the Hero 3; however, the updates address some of the key criticisms of the Hero 3. The Hero 3+ features 30% more battery life thanks to a 1180mAh battery (up from a 1050 mAh battery in the Hero 3). Additionally, the Hero 3+ gets a sharper f/2.8 lens, 4x faster built-in WiFi. Apple Updates iMac Line for Fall 2013

Apple updated its iMac line with a rather modest refresh. Key new specs include an update to fourth generation Intel quad-core processors – i5 is the base offering on all models; however, it is upgradeable to i7 processors up to 3.5Ghz.

Video editors will be pleased with the upgraded graphics cards, including the ability to upgrade to a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M with 4GB of video memory. However, the displays did not receive the 4K/Retina upgrade that had been rumored and hoped-for in recent months. [Read more…]
