SmugMug has launched SmugMug for Android in the Google Play App Store.
SmugMug actually acquired a popular third party app, SmugFolio and hired the app’s developer, Brian Wood.
SmugFolio is now called “SmugMug for Android” and includes some new, exciting features including the ability to browse SmugMug user accounts without needing to log into the app. This is a great way to give friends and family a way to browse your public galleries on their phones and tablets.
SmugMug for Android is available for free here on the Google Play Store.

Several leaks and rumors point to a refresh of the excellent Sony RX100 (read my RX100 review) coming later this month. According to a leak of the RX100M2 manual, the camera will feature a hot shoe for attaching speedlights or other accessories and a tilting LCD screen. Additionally, the RX100M2 should feature the same 1-inch, 20.2MP CMOS sensor as is found in the current RX100. [Read more…]

Adobe has clearly been reconsidering its marketing to photographers since the major pushback from Photoshop users after revealed that it would no longer offer perpetual licenses of new Creative Suite products. The latest word in the form of surveys to some Photoshop users that probed feelings on Creative Cloud pricing.

Olympus has issued firmware updates for the PEN E-PL5 and PEN E-PM2. The new firmware provides the following improvements:
Additionally, support for the new VF-4 EVF has been added to firmware updates for the following Olympus cameras: OM-D E-M5, PEN E-P2, E-P3, E-PL1, E-PL2, E-PL3, E-PM1 and XZ-2.
There are two options for updating the firmware:
With each method, users can choose to display information related to what the update will apply, prior to performing the update.

Here’s a great little trick for getting some motion in your video shots even if you don’t have a slider or a jib. I’ve used a tripod tilted up on two legs quite a bit for cheating dolly-in and dolly-out shots, but the Fenchel & Janisch folks take it a step further with movements along other axes for some cool jib-esque shots. The suggestion of shooting a higher frame rate to smooth out any imperfections in the camera movement when conformed to a lower frame rate is good as well.

Rokinon’s new 16mm f/4 ED AS UMC CS lens is now available for pre-order for $479 with expected availability on August 8. This lens is built for APS-C sensors. As such, the Canon EF-S version offers a field of view equivalent to 25.6mm on a full frame camera. While Nikon, Sony, Fuji X-Series and other APS-C cameras will get a 24mm equivalent field of view.
