Camera Raw 8.1 Release Candidate for Photoshop CS6 Now Available

May 16, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Photoshop-CS6

Adobe just announced a release candidate for Camera Raw 8.1, which is now available in Adobe Labs. This is the first departure from Camera Raw 7.x for CS6 users. With the recent Adobe Photoshop CC changes taking place, CS6 customers will continue to get new updates for raw file support; however, the killer new features that are part of Camera Raw in Photoshop CC will not make it over to CS6 customers.

Camera Raw 8.1 includes support for HiDPI capable displays (e.g., MacBook Pro Retina) and offers support for the following cameras:

  • Hasselblad H5D-60
  • Olympus PEN E-P5
  • Olympus PEN E-PL6
  • Phase One IQ260*
  • Ricoh GR
  • Panasonic LUMIX DMC-G6
  • Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LF1

* denotes preliminary support

Remember, this is a release candidate, which means it has been pretty well tested and Adobe thinks it is ready for full release; however, it’s recommended that you keep production work to prior versions until the official release drops.  Expect that to come soon though.  Release candidates mean that the final versions are just around the corner.

TriCaster 455 for $9,995 – Deal Alert

May 16, 2013 By Eric Reagan

TriCaster 455

While I’m aware this deal is only relevant to a small segment of readers, I wanted to make sure that those in live video production were aware that the TriCaster 455 is available for $9,995 through June 27. If you’ve been shopping for a production mixer, you know that the TriCaster 455 normally retails for $16,000, so this is ridiculous savings on a very popular mixer. (Note that the deal is for the TriCaster unit only and does not include the control surface or monitors.)

You can find the TriCaster 455 deal here at B&H Photo.

Pelican ProGear S130 Laptop/Camera Backpack Review

May 16, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Pelican ProGear S130

The Pelican ProGear S130 is a tough new camera and laptop backpack that is design to protect your gear at all costs. I’ve been carrying the bag for a few weeks now and absolutely appreciate the no-shortcuts rugged design. While the bag isn’t for everyone, if you need a bag to protect your camera, lenses and laptop from the abuse of rough handling and harsh conditions, the ProGear S130 can certainly do the trick.
