Photographing Shadow and Light – New Book from Joey L.

September 29, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Photographing Shadow and Light

Photographing Shadow and Light is a new book from photography superstar Joey L. due for release on December 4, 2012.

“In Photographing Shadow and Light, Joey lifts the curtain on his dramatic, creatively fearless approach to portraiture, sharing his personal philosophy and a behind-the-scenes look at 15 striking photo sessions—from personal projects shot in Africa, India, and Brooklyn to commercial shoots for 50 Cent, the Jonas Brothers, and Project Runway All Stars. Joey provides readers with a step-by-step description of how he visualized each shoot, formed meaningful connections with his subjects, and “built” his signature dramatic lighting effects—one light at a time.

Featuring more than 85 stunning portraits, detailed lighting diagrams, and a foreword from industry icon David Hobby (aka Strobist), Photographing Shadow and Light shares the creative process behind one of today’s most exciting photography talents, providing serious amateurs and professionals a fresh perspective on creating compelling, professional quality portraits.”

Photographing Shadow and Light retails for $29.99; however, it is currently available for $19.39 from Amazon.com.

Red Giant Ships PluralEyes 3 for Mac

September 28, 2012 By Eric Reagan

PluralEyes 3

Red Giant’s PluralEyes 3 for Mac is now available.  This latest iteration of the superior audio synching software is the first version that’s been released since Red Giant acquired Singular Software (and it has gotten so much better since version 1 – which was awesome in its own right at the time).

Red Giant claims 20x speed increases in PluralEyes 3 and, after having seen demos of the software back at NAB 2012, I can vouch that those numbers are legit.  This latest version absolutely sings – no matter how many audio clips you pile on to be synched up.

Aside from the solid speed boost, here’s the other new features Red Giant PluralEyes 3 offers: [Read more…]

September 27, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon Rumors

The Nikon D800 and its 36MP of resolution has sort-of overshadowed Canon’s “lowly” 22MP 5D Mark III in both the resolution and dynamic range department since the cameras were announced earlier this year.  If rumors have it right though, Canon’s response could be a throwdown of both the resolution and dynamic range gauntlet later this year. Samyang 85mm T1.5 AS IF UMC Cine Lens Announced

September 27, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Samyang 85mm Cine Lens

Samyang has added a 85mm T1.5 lens to its cinema lens line-up.  The new 85mm T1.5 AS IF UMC lens joins the four existing Samyang cine lenses, the 8mm, 14mm, 24mm and 35mm.

Optical construction is the same as a standard version of the 85mm lens, including the 8-blade aperture for smooth bokeh wide open. This new version, however, is designed specifically for cinematography with focus gearing and a silent aperture ring.

No word yet on price, release dates or mount options; however, past Samyang cine models have been available in Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts.

Contour+2 Action Cam Now Available

September 25, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Contour+2

The new Contour+2 action cam is available now.  The new camera features iOS integration, allowing you to start/stop the recording or adjust camera settings from your iPhone/iPad.  It ships will a waterproof case that lets you take the camera down to 197′ underwater.

The Contour+2 captures full HD at 24p/30p – and will even capture 854 x 480p video at 120fps; however, that’s still a far cry from Sony’s new action cams that will capture 720p HD video as 120 fps.  That said, Contour cameras’ functionality and solid GPS features (in the new Contour+2) offer a lot of value in a somewhat unique package.

You can find the new Contour+2 cameras now available here at B&H Photo.
