Fuji HS30EXR

Fuji continues the popular HS-line of cameras with the Fuji HS30EXR and HS25EXR prior to CES 2012.

The HS30EXR now serves as the flagship HS camera, replacing the HS20, while the HS25EXR steps in as a secondary model in the HS-line.

The HS30EXR features a 16MP CMOS sensor and 30x optical zoom.  Priced at $499.95, the HS30EXR should be available in March.  Check availability on Amazon.com.

The HS25EXR offers the same 16MP CMOS image sensor and 30x optical zoom.  However, the HS25EXR is powered by AA batteries and does not allow users to capture RAW image files like the HS30EXR.  The HS25EXR retails for $399.95 and should be available in March.  Check availability on Amazon.com.

Nikon D4 Only Days Away?

January 4, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Nikon D4

The latest leaks and rumors peg the Nikon D4 for unveiling just prior to CES 2012.  A Nikon press invitation (see below) suggests something big is happening on January 6 and Nikon Rumors is convinced that the Nikon D4 with its 16MP FX sensor, XQD card format and lightning-fast frame rate of 11 fps is what’s coming.

That, and the above photo is of the real Nikon D4. [Read more…]

Canon 5D Mark III, 7D Mark II, 3D and 4K Rumor-fest

January 2, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon 4K Cine DSLR

This is some kind of New Year resolution for Canon – that is, if all these rumors come to light by the end of the year.

More juice on the Canon 5D Mark III suggests further that the camera would maintain a reasonable MP-count (if not the same as the Canon 1D X).  The rumor mill also continues to churn on an announcement for the 5D Mark III in the next few months.  For the record, my money is still on an announcement in time for the 2012 NAB Show.

In addition to the 5D Mark III, rumors are swirling that the infamous Canon 3D is a live project.  No spec details other than to suggest that it is a “photographer’s camera.”  What that means, I dunno.  The simplest of guesses has me leaning toward no/minor video functionality, which would go hand-in-hand with earlier rumors of the 5D Mark III as a very video-centric camera.

Hmm? A 5D line as the video-focused line and a 3D line as the stills-focused line?  The 3D name would tend to lead to less confusion if the camera didn’t have video capture at all… [Read more…]

December 31, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Fuji X100

This is the first year that I have passed out honors for a Camera of the Year, and I sure picked a year full of solid cameras to do this one.  There have been some truly great cameras released this year that meet all sorts of photographers’ needs, including the Canon Rebel T3i, Canon 1D X, Nikon D5100, Sony NEX-5N, NEX-7 and NEX-C3, Sony A77 and A65, Olympus E-PM1, E-PL3 and E-P3, among plenty of others.

However, only one camera gets the honor, and that camera is the Fuji X100.  Read on for the why. [Read more…]

Canon 5D Mark III in March/April 2012?

December 29, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Canon “Super G Series” as an Answer to Mirrorless Competition?

December 29, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Canon G12

There have been plenty of rumors lately about Canon’s response to the mirrorless camera systems that every other major manufacturer is cranking out like gangbusters.  The most consistent rumor of late seems to be that Canon is working on a sort of “Super G Series” camera(s).

I like it. Here’s why. [Read more…]
