Moron Steals Photos, Then Calls Photographer Malicious for Suing Him

October 24, 2017 By Eric Reagan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBNGY2ZgMro&w=700&showinfo=0&rel=0

I’ve started to post this video several times but it’s been hard for me to get past the stupidity. The broseph you see in this video decided he would use a photographer’s images that he “found on Google . . . freely available” in his Shopify “business.” The problem, however, is that he didn’t get a license or permission from the photographer.

The photographer then sued the thief with evidence supporting his slam-dunk case. Moron rightly decides to settle the case for $27,000 plus $10,000 in court costs and attorney’s fees.

His defense is a maddening riddle:

“There are malicious people who put copyrighted images all over the internet without letting clearly know that they’re copyrighted. And then these same people search for the instances of images used and sue people. They work in groups, that’s their business model.”

I can’t do much more than throw my hands up at this. While I’ve heard the “freely available on Google” schtick many times before, it’s still shocking to hear the defiance in this guy’s rant. And he still doesn’t get it after paying out $37,000.

This is the stupidity that photographers are up against.

October 20, 2017 By Eric Reagan

The latest milestone numbers for Canon reminds us of just what a behemoth that Canon really is. Since first EOS 650 SLR rolled off the line in 1987 and, since then, Canon has produced 90 million EOS film and digital cameras and 130 million EF lenses. A Canon EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR Camera was the 90 millionth EOS Series camera produced, while an EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM Ultra-Wide Zoom Lens was the Company’s 130 millionth interchangeable lens. Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III puts a DSLR in a Compact Camera

October 19, 2017 By Eric Reagan

The newly-announced Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III is a new step for Canon with the flagship of its G-series line checking all the boxes of a DSLR in a very compact package. The 15-45mm lens offers a 24-72mm equivalent field of view on the APS-C format sensor with a variable aperture starting at a bright f/2.8 on the wide end.

The G1 X Mark III also has Canon’s highly regarded Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which provides solid performance for still image and video capture. It has a reasonable sensitivity range of ISO 100-25,600, which is also comparable to entry-level DSLRs like the recent entries in the Canon Rebel series. Throw in 1080/60p video capture and 7fps still shooting with AF tracking and you have a respectable imaging machine in your hands. [Read more…]

The Next Upgrade for Lightroom 6 is Never; Long Live Lightroom CC!

October 18, 2017 By Eric Reagan

Back in 2013, we all saw the writing on the wall when Adobe killed its Creative Suite perpetual licenses and Photoshop CS6 became the last version you could buy and keep forever. While Adobe kept delivering some bug fixes and RAW file support for CS6 for awhile, eventually, that stopped.

Now, Lightroom 6 is getting the same treatment. Worse still, is that there are no RAW file updates planned for future cameras in Lightroom 6. Lightroom CC will be the only game in Adobe-town going forward. And, Lightroom CC has plenty of changes as well. [Read more…]
