Canon’s Developing a Low-Light, Compact Industrial Camera

Canon has announced the development of MM100-WS Multi-Purpose Camera. It’s incredibly compact with a body size of approximately 1.57 in (w) x 1.57 in (h) x .85 in (d), which is about the same size as the GoPro HERO5 Session. The Canon camera is even a little thinner though.

Canon is positioning the MM100-WS as a solution for a variety of industries. It suggests professional and industrial applications, such as monitoring in narrow spaces, piping inspections and automotive industry, among others. It will be dust and moisture resistant and can capture images in very low light, considering it only needs 1 lux of illumination.

No word yet on pricing or availability; however, I expect to see the camera up close at PhotoPlus next month.

 

Sony Unveils the Insanely Fast RX10 IV

The Sony RX10 IV is the latest in its line of superzoom cameras featuring the popular 20MP 1″ class sensor. This newest addition uses the familiar 24-600mm equivalent zoom lens and adds an incredible 24fps still image capture rate thanks to the BIONZ X processor.

The RX10 IV’s AF system features 315 AF points with on-sensor phase-detection. Impressively, the AF and AE continues to track during the 24fps still image bursts. [Read more…]

Apple Unveils a Trio of iPhones with Impressive Photography Upgrades

Apple announced three new iPhones earlier today – the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.

Apple’s iPhone has been the standard for smartphone photography since the first version was released 10 years ago. The latest update continues this tradition with some incremental and some ambitious upgrades.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are the direct successors to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, respectively. The iPhone X (pronounced “iPhone Ten”) features a number of cutting edge upgrades that sets it apart from the current crop of smartphones in the market and positions it as the new standard-bearer.
