I Have PSD…

October 25, 2010 By Eric Reagan

The above video, “I Have PSD,” is a fun stop motion short film from Hyperakt, which provides a fun twist on how Photoshop might work in the physical world.

Photoshop dexterity (PSD) is a skillset acquired by proficient users of Adobe Photoshop, the world’s most ubiquitous digital tool for creating visual ideas. Qualities of PSD include supernatural powers of imagination and an overwhelming desire to constantly make the world more beautiful. PSD affects people from different walks of life. In fact, there is a high probability that you have PSD.

Gaffer Tape 101: Using Optical Slaves While Cheating the Sun

October 23, 2010 By Eric Reagan

I was outside taking some outdoor portraits earlier this week and had more lights than I had radio receivers to trigger them with.  While all the strobes had the ability to trigger with optical slaves, the sunlight (even though I was positioned in the shade) prevented the optical slave from seeing my command flash (no matter how close it was to the slave cell).

This was one of those oh-crap, on-the-fly moments…

Sony A77 with 24MP Sensor

October 21, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Sony A700 Replacement

A new rumor puts a prosumer Sony A77 SLT in the pipeline for next year.  Sony Alpha Rumors received word that the new Sony A77 will feature a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor and still maintain noise control on as good as or better than Sony’s current crop of APS-C cameras in the 14-16MP range.  The Sony A77 should have the same translucent mirror technology as found in the recently released Sony A55 and A33.

This looks to be the Sony A700 replacement that everyone has been waiting for (like, forever) and should offer 1080p and 720p video capture in AVCHD format.

Canon vs. Nikon Debate Turns Violent at Wedding

October 19, 2010 By Eric Reagan

These guys were apparently shooting a wedding when something went very, very wrong.

Since they are apparently speaking Russian, I can only speculate as to the source of the disagreement; however, I’m pretty sure it originated with a derogatory comment from the Nikon D700 user about the Canon 5D Mark II user’s autofocusing capabilities.

Save that stuff for the forums guys.

Twitter, Lawyers and Your Photos

October 19, 2010 By Eric Reagan

I had decided to sit this one out . . . but there sure has been a lot of name-calling, face-making and side-taking, so I thought I would try to clear the air a little bit by offering up my opinion on the matter.

While I am a lawyer, I am not your lawyer and this is an editorial commentary on newsworthy issues rather than legal advice.  Remember that one too – unless you’re paying a lawyer, you aren’t really getting legal advice, and what you are getting on blogs, forums and, for that matter, Twitter is worth just what you paid for it.  Seriously, remember that the next time you want to rely on someone’s advice on a forum.  The judge won’t be too keen on a printout of a blog post when you hand it to him as “evidence.”

Ok, with that out of the way, let’s dig into this Twitastrophe.  And, if you’ve made it this far, and don’t know what I mean when I say the word “Twitter,” feel free to skip this post altogether.  ;-) [Read more…]
