Adobe Camera Raw 8.2 and DNG Converter 8.2 Now Available

September 19, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Photoshop-CS6

Along with the release of Lightroom 5.2, Adobe also released Adobe Camera Raw 8.2 and DNG Converter 8.2.

Camera Raw 8.2 is made available to Photoshop CC and CS6 users, while Adobe had released DNG Converter 8.2 for customers using versions older than Photoshop CS6.

While Camera Raw 8.2 provides several new features, they are only available to Photoshop CC users. Those using Photoshop CS6, however, do get the new camera support provided in Camera Raw 8.2. [Read more…]

Adobe Creative Cloud Pushes Past 1 Million Subscribers; Photoshop CC and Lightroom Now Available for $9.99/mo

September 19, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom Creative Cloud Deal

After the Creative Cloud subscription method was implemented in full and perpetual licenses for future versions were killed,  many photographers vowed to leave Adobe in the dust and proclaimed that the company would crumble and fall from the decision. Adobe’s prior goal was to reach 1 million subscribers before the end of 2013. It seems that they are ahead of schedule. [Read more…]

Adobe Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 for $9.99/mo . . . But There’s a Catch

September 4, 2013 By Eric Reagan

One of the biggest criticisms since Adobe killed perpetual licenses and forced Creative Cloud memberships on users who want access to future versions of Photoshop has been the price. The full Creative Cloud subscription that includes all the apps runs $50/mo. Single apps, like Photoshop CC, run $20/mo.

Jimmy Beltz and I discussed this very issue during a live cast shortly after the launch of Creative Cloud. I believe it was Jimmy that came up with the suggestion of offering Photoshop CC and Lightroom for a combined price of $10/mo.

Well, that is just what Adobe has done. [Read more…]

Lightroom 5.2 and Canon 70D Support . . . Any Day Now, Adobe…

August 31, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Lightroom 5

I expect Adobe to drop the full version of Lightroom 5.2 any day now. It’s been a full month since the Lightroom 5.2 release candidate was made available and preliminary support for the 70D was included.

Those of you looking to work on your Canon 70D raw files can do so with the release candidate. Or, if you have Aperture 3, Apple has already made full support for the 70D available in it.

Photoshop 3.0 vs. Photoshop CC on Floppy Discs

July 25, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Photoshop Version 3

Here’s a fun little nugget for those of you who recall the old 3.5-inch floppy discs. Photoshop 3.0, which launched in September 1994 and became the first version to feature “Layers”, was the last version of Photoshop to be sold on the floppy disc.

If Photoshop CC were sold on floppy discs today, it would need to be installed with 733 discs!

Premiere Pro CC Just Got Its First Update With Several New Features

July 11, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Premiere Pro New Timeline

Anyone who said Adobe would rest on its laurels with updating its software now that it is subscription only may have a change of heart after seeing how Adobe has already updated Premiere Pro CC. The new update adds 25 new features – several of which I can see speeding up my own workflow.

The first one is a big helper: “create a unique title by duplicating a sequence title.”

Previously, when you alt-drag to copy (a feature introduced in CS6) a title clip in a sequence, it would just duplicate that instance of the title. And, if you made changes to the title, it affected the original clip as well (b/c it’s a duplication of that title clip). Now, if you alt-drag to copy a title clip in a sequence, you get a brand new title clip that you can edit independently of the clip you just copied.

It saves a few mouse clicks for each duplication. And those mouse clicks add up over the course of editing a sequence. I’m pretty happy about this one.

Dragging clips to the source monitor from Finder is another cool one.

The update is available through the Creative Cloud app manager.

Check out the full list of new features below. [Read more…]
