The Canon XC10 was on display at NAB 2015 and I spent a few minutes with it at the Canon booth yesterday.

My first impression was that it was much lighter and plastic-feeling than I was expecting. While it is bigger than a Canon Rebel DSLR, the feel of the material and build very much reminds me of what a Rebel feels like. [Read more…]

 

Canon PowerShot G7 X Review

The Canon PowerShot G7 X is one of those cameras that we have all been waiting for Canon to deliver. At the moment it was announced, there was a collective mumble of “finally” uttered among Canon enthusiasts around the world.

While Canon has attempted putting larger sensors on compact cameras (e.g., the G1 X), nothing had risen to the level of what Sony has been doing with its RX100 line of cameras. The Canon PowerShot G7 X is, in many ways, a knock-off of the Sony RX100 line. It even appears to use the same Sony 1″ sensor found in the RX100 cameras with its 20MP resolution, which is perfectly fine with me since Sony makes such a great product in the RX100 line. Canon’s New EF 50mm f/1.8 IS STM Lens Leaks Out?

This could very well be a low-res image of Canon’s upcoming EF 50mm f/1.8 IS STM lens, which has been rumored for quite some time. Photo Rumors received the image from a tipster with no further details about announcement time frame or availability.

Even from the low resolution image, it looks like it has a better build quality and certainly has a better focus ring that the $125 Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens. Of course, with Image Stabilization and the STM motor inside, I suspect this lens will run quite a bit higher than the “nifty fifty” seen below. [Read more…]
