Canon Launches CPS Cinema and Enterprise Membership Levels

Canon 6D Firmware Ver. 1.1.4 Update
Canon has updated the EOS 6D to firmware version 1.1.4. The new firmware provides the following improvements.
- Fixes a phenomenon in which some images cannot be transferred to mobile devices running the EOS Remote app.
- Corrects an error in the German language Feature Guide.
- Corrects an error in the Korean language Feature Guide.

Zacuto Z-Finder for Canon C300 & C500 Available Soon
Zacuto has released a new Z-Finder optical viewfinder for the Canon C300 and C500 cinema cameras. The Z-Finder delivers 1.8x magnification of the LCD screen.
It attaches by using a foam padded sleeve that slides over the LCD screen of either the C300 or C500. The sleeve is secured into place with a bar clamp. It also includes a unique monitor lock clip to keep the LCD screen from moving forward when the Z-Finder is pressed against your eye.
The Z-Finder for the Canon C300 and C500 retails for $485 and is expected to ship mid-March. Check it out here at B&H Photo.

Can You Spot a Counterfeit Canon Battery, Charger or Grip?
For the past several tradeshows that I have been to, Canon has featured a great little display that asks you to identify counterfeit Canon products placed alongside genuine Canon products. The counterfeits look so convincing that I could not tell one from the other without further tips from Canon on spotting the differences.

Canon’s Vixia Mini X is a Compact Camcorder with Clean HDMI-Output
Canon has been trying its hand at some cameras and features lately that are a bit out of left field. The PowerShot N and G1 X cameras come to mind. In the same vein of “different” comes the Canon Vixia Mini X, which debuted at CES 2014 last month. Shot-by-Shot Breakdown of Cameras Used in ‘Need for Speed’ Trailer
Shane Hurlbut is the cinematographer for the new Need for Speed movie. A couple weeks ago, he had a contest to see who could spot the GoPro footage in the trailer. The contest is over now, but Shane put together an annotated trailer that labels all the cameras and lenses used in the trailer for each and every shot (…and there are a lot of cuts in there).
Along with the C500 and Alexa Plus, there are a few shots using the Canon 1D C in obvious tight quarters or crash cam situations. Notably, all the cameras are capable of 4K image capture (and were shooting 4K) even though the film was finished in 2K. However, the 4K frame gives plenty of room for reframes and stabilization, which makes sense when you’re shooting car sequences at 120mph. [Read more…]
Canon Withdrawing from Budget Compact Camera Market?
A report from a Japanese newspaper cites a Canon executive’s comments that Canon will begin to withdraw from the budget-oriented compact cameras over the next year or two.
