Everyone knows the bright red Canon logo that we see plastered on the top of every camera or lens we buy. Ever wonder how they came up with that brand name?
Canon initially began as Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory in 1933. When the company began manufacturing cameras on a trial basis, it named them “Kwanon”, which was the name of the Buddist Goddess of Mercy. New Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L Rumored for Photokina 2012
Northlight Images has word that Canon may be introducing an updated version of the EF 400mm f/5.6L lens prior to Photokina 2012. This lens has been around for quite a while and it is relatively affordable for an L-series telephoto lens. It will be interesting to see whether Canon puts an Image Stabilization system in the new version if the rumors are true and just how much the price will rise over the current version.
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II Available This Month
Back in July, we learned that the new Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II was being pushed back to September. Well, it’s September now and Canon Rumors has word that retailers have started to receive their stock of the new lens. The lenses are expected to be in retailers in North America and Europe by September 13.
The new lens was announced by Canon back in February 2012 and was slated for availability in April 2012. The lens is expected to be widely available by October after pre-orders are filled.

Canon 14mm T3.1 and 135mm T2.2 EF Cinema Prime Lenses Unveiled
Along with the new Canon C100 announced yesterday, Canon previewed a pair of new cinema prime lenses – the 14mm T3.1 and 135mm T2.2 EF. These new prime lenses will work on both 35mm full frame and Super 35mm crop cameras (e.g., both the 5D Mark III and the Canon C300). [Read more…]

Canon C100 Cinema Camera Unveiled at $8k Price Tag
