Nokia Lumia 928 Review

July 22, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Lumia 928-5

Over the past few weeks, I have been testing the new Nokia Lumia 928 – specifically, the camera portion of the phone. Of course, Apple’s iPhone has been the most used camera in the world for several years now. Apple’s ecosystem of apps is a large part of this, but Android has been pushing hard, and many of the great photography apps are now available on Android.

Enter the Windows Phone, and specifically, those from Nokia. [Read more…]

Canon Rebel T5i Review

July 9, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Canon Rebel T5i

The Canon Rebel T5i (aka 700D outside the US) follows the solid Rebel T4i, which followed the solid Rebel T3i, and so on. The thing about about the Rebel series in the recent iterations is that it seems like Canon is getting rather lazy and predictable with its flagship cameras in the Rebel lineup. [Read more…]

Steadicam Curve Hands-On

June 4, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Steadicam Curve

Tiffen launched its new Steadicam Curve at NAB 2013. The Curve is designed to work with GoPro HERO cameras.

I stopped by Tiffen’s booth to try out the Steadicam Curve and was instantly impressed with the usability of the device.

The Curve only weighs a half pound and is made to be operated with only one hand. It is the first Steadicam product that I have picked up and instantly felt at ease with it. For those who are intimidated by these stabilizer devices, this would be a great place to start. [Read more…]

May 16, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Pelican ProGear S130

The Pelican ProGear S130 is a tough new camera and laptop backpack that is design to protect your gear at all costs. I’ve been carrying the bag for a few weeks now and absolutely appreciate the no-shortcuts rugged design. While the bag isn’t for everyone, if you need a bag to protect your camera, lenses and laptop from the abuse of rough handling and harsh conditions, the ProGear S130 can certainly do the trick. C-Loop

CustomSLR’s C-Loop is an alterative camera strap attachment solution to the traditional top mounted camera strap loops that are located on each top side of DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. Instead, the C-Loop attaches to the bottom of the camera in the tripod mount that is found on virtually every camera. [Read more…]

FxFactory PRO v4 Video Effects Plug-in Review

March 12, 2013 By Eric Reagan

FxFactory PRO v4

FxFactory PRO v4 is a plug-in for popular NLE editors like Final Cut Pro X, FCP 7 and Premiere Pro CS6. I have been using FxFactory PRO v4 for a few months now in both FCP X and Premier Pro CS6. While it also works in After Effects and Motion, my use has been limited to NLEs.

FxFactory PRO v4 uses the FxFactory plug-in manager for installation and updates. I have used several plug-ins with FxFactory and find it to be one of the easiest installation processes to use with NLE plug-ins. [Read more…]

Alien Skin Eye Candy 7 Review

February 8, 2013 By Kortney Jarman

Eye Candy 7 Examples

Eye Candy 7 is a very interesting software package. It renders realistic effects that are not easy to create in Photoshop. Have you ever wanted to add lightning or fire to your images?

This software is meant for graphic designers, but as a photographer, I’ve been known to dable in the design of my own promotional materials.

Using Eye Candy 7 to add effect to graphics is easy. Just select the layer in Photoshop you want to add an effect to, launch Eye Candy, select the effect and tweak. Most of the effects need a shape layer to be applied. [Read more…]
