The Flaspoint 500C LED dimmable light is a rather compact and affordable LED solution from Adorama. The light features 500 individual LED bulbs – 250 of which are daylight balanced and 250 of which are tungsten balanced.
The two sets of LED bulbs are controlled by two independent dimmer knobs. As a result, you have a fully dimmable light and a variable color temperature light. Both are pretty cool features for a $200 video light. [Read more…]

The Capture Camera Clip System by Peak Design is a unique camera clip that will allow you to clip your camera to any belt or backpack strap. This system has to be one of the most innovative designs I have seen in awhile. It started out as a Kickstarter project, which quickly gained traction and funding.
My initial thoughts when I finally got my hands on the Capture was this is the coolest thing ever. Not only can I clip it to any belt or strap, but the quick-release plate is an Arca Swiss compatible. That means it will connect into my tripod system without any problems. The ioSafe Extreme is a portable, bus-powered hard drive that is built like a tank. It is available in 500GB or 1TB capacities with a 5400RPM spinning drive, or with a SSD drive from 120GB-600GB capacities. The latest models are USB 3.0 only; however, the model that I reviewed was a FW800 with a 5400RPM 1TB drive inside.
The enclosure is a solid aluminum enclosure that matches up nicely with current generation Mac products. Moreover, the aluminum enclosure is crush resistant up to 2500 lbs, while the available titanium enclosure is crush proof up to 5000 lbs. The Spider Camera Holster is a new way to carry your camera. With this system your camera will clip onto a belt, taking the weight off from your neck and shoulders. Personally, I dislike standard camera straps. So I was thrilled to have the opportunity to test out the Spider Holster.
I tested out the SpiderPro Single Camera System, which includes the SpiderPro Belt, the SpiderPro Holster, the SpiderPro Plate, and a SpiderPin, with a Canon 7D with battery grip, a 70-200 f4 IS, and 430EX II Speedlite.
The SpiderPro Belt with Holster was very easy to adjust and get situated on my waist. The belt is adjustable via a velcro strap and is easy to switch the position from the right side of your body to the left side. The buckle is a triple lock type so you know that it will not randomly come unclipped. [Read more…]
The latest bus-powered compact drives are available in capacities up to 2TB. If there’s one thing that photo and video shooters can’t get enough of, it’s storage space for the growing file sizes we’re dealing with.
The new Western Digital My Passport Studio drives for Mac users sleek and compact (particularly when you consider we’re getting 2TB of storage). WD recently sent me a pair of the new drives to try out. The drive’s external shell is mix of silver and black aluminum, which goes along nicely with the current MacBook motif.
As with with recent iterations of Western Digital’s FireWire 800 drives, the new My Passport Studio drives sport dual FW800 ports, allowing you to daisy chain multiple devices and only use a single port on your computer. [Read more…]
