Sony A6000 E-Mount Camera Leaks Out
Sony is expected to officially announce the new A6000 mirrorless camera tomorrow; however, we get a sneak peak a little early thanks to this image of the new E-mount mirrorless camera that leaked out.
The A6000 continues the rebranding process of Sony’s E-mount cameras, which were previously branded as NEX models. Since Sony consolidated the Alpha branding, new mirrorless cameras have dropped the NEX moniker in favor of the Alpha moniker and have simply been referred to as an A* series model number. Hasselblad Unveils the ‘HV’ as $11,500 Rebadged Sony A99
Hasselblad has announced another nonsensical rebadge of a Sony camera. This time, the Sony A99 (announced 1.5 years ago) with its 24MP full frame sensor becomes the new Hasselblad HV. [Read more…]
10 Features That Make the Sony A7 and A7R Excellent Full Frame Video Cameras
One of the things I wanted to do during my review of the Sony A7 and A7R was to put the video features through their paces. With the help of my uncharacteristically cooperative kids, I shot the above short, Nerfed, in a few hours using only the Sony A7 and A7R (along with a couple of shots with the GoPro Hero3 that were necessary for the plot). After using these cameras for this fun project and in other ways over the past few weeks, Sony makes a great case for its next generation of full frame cameras. [Read more…]
Hasselblad Making a Sony A-Mount Camera?
A newly-leaked spy shot of a Hasselblad SLR looks to be yet another Sony camera with a fancy facelift. However, this time, the camera looks like an Alpha A-mount camera.

Sony ILCE-5000 (A5000?) Leaks Out
A Sony ILCE-5000 camera has been registered on the Taiwan National Communication Commission website, which likely points to the upcoming release of the camera. CES 2014 would be a good time frame to see it show up.
The Sony A3000, A7 and A7R all carry the “ILCE” moniker in their technical product number. While we all refer to the cameras with an “A” prefix, they are technically the Alpha 3000, Alpha 7 and Alpha 7R – or more precisely (using the symbol) ?3000, ?7, and ?7R. It would be logical then that the ILCE-5000 follows the new “Alpha” branding (“NEX” is dead) and carries the product name ?5000 when it officially arrives. [Read more…]
Samyang Introduces Full Frame Lenses for Sony E-Mount
New Sony A7 and A7R owners can rejoice. Samyang has introduced five new full-frame lenses for Sony E-mount, including:
- Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC
- Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS IF UMC
- Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC
- Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC
- Samyang 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC
So far, only the 14mm f/2.8 lens is available for pre-order. Expect the others to follow soon.
With the warm reception we’ve seen from the Sony A7 and A7R, expect the third-party lens lineup to continue to grow for the Sony E-mount. Also, while these lenses were clearly released in response to the A7 and A7R, they are also compatible with the Sony APS-C E-mount cameras.
Sony A7R Now In Stock
B&H has the Sony A7R in stock in limited quantities. Check it out here at B&H Photo.
Sony Cyber-shot RX10 Impresses as a Video Camera
I have been enamored with the Sony RX10 ever since it was announced. I know a lot of folks are down on the RX10’s price; however, we’re talking about a 1″ sensor with a f/2.8 fixed aperture 24-200mm equivalent lens.
Below is some of the first footage I’ve seen and I remain impressed with this little super camera. [Read more…]
