The Sony H55 is a 14.1MP point and shoot camera with a 10x optical zoom, which covers an equivalent range of 25-250mm on a 35mm format camera. It retails for $249 and is a sort-of middle-of-the-road point and shoot. It’s not quite as high end as the Sony HX5V; however, it’s still a step up from most of Sony’s W-series of Cyber-shot cameras. Sony Europe has released a video demonstrating the menu system of the new Alpha ultra-compact interchangeable lens camera.
This HD teaser trailer showcases the camera’s large LCD screen, intuitive menu functionality and on-screen help guide. The practicality of an ultra compact camera is combined with an APS-size sensor and AVCHD video recording, resulting in a sublimely simple photographic experience that produces stunning photos with DSLR picture quality.

The Sony Cyber-shot TX5 is a rugged, point and shoot camera that is touted as dustproof, waterproof, freezeproof and shockproof. The TX5 features a 10.2MP Exmor R CMOS sensor for improved low light performance and noise control. Additionally, the TX5 features a 4x optical zoom lens with image stabilization and can capture 720p HD video.
Like it’s more powerful sibling, the TX7, the Sony TX5 features a touchscreen LCD for quick and intuitive menu navigation. The touchscreen LCD also allow you to tap the screen to select your focus point.
I really liked the TX5’s 3-inch touchscreen LCD. There are some touchscreens that just down work on cameras – either in terms of input response or menu navigation. The TX5, along with the pricier TX7, do touchscreens right. [Read more…]

Sony revealed today at PMA 2010 that it will refresh several models in the Alpha DSLR line with new, Full HD AVCHD-capable models. Among those cameras to be refreshed is the Sony A700, which Sony Alpha enthusiasts have been anxiously awaiting for some time now. Sony had two product mock-ups on display at PMA 2010 – an entry-level DSLR and an advanced DSLR, which appeared to be the Sony A700 replacement (shown above). [Read more…]
Today at PMA 2010, Sony unveiled plans for a new Alpha mount APS format camera featuring a mirrorless body. The new camera looks and operates much like the Olympus E-PL1; however, Sony is quick to point out that the APS format sensor is significantly larger than the Micro Four Thirds sensor. [Read more…]
