Yesterday, PMA announced that its 2011 trade show won’t be happening at all. Instead, PMA said it was “colocating” with CES 2012, which takes place between January 10-13 next year. [Read more…]

Focus on Imaging is the largest annual trade show in Europe and is scheduled for March 6-9, 2011. Focus on Imaging is a place where Canon has had a massive presence in past years. This year, however, Canon won’t be there. Moreover, Canon’s decision to not participate was only made public today. [Read more…]
PMA Event is Now Called CliQ
PMA has rebranded its annual photo tradeshow event as CliQ. So, we’ll be referring to what was previously known as “PMA 2011” as “CliQ 2011” going forward – although, you’ll have to excuse me if I mess up the letter casing on CliQ from time to time. (They don’t really think of the editors at the keyboard, do they?)
I think Jeff Revell over at PhotoWalkPro has a pretty good perspective on this rebranding, which is worth a read if you’re interested in the nuts and bolts of this type of thing.
For those looking for the official line, you can read the press release below. [Read more…]
PMA 2011 Gets Pushed to 3rd Quarter, Back to Vegas
There’s no doubt that PMA 2010 was a bit of a disappointment, particularly with the Anaheim venue, Canon’s absence, and some overshadowing by CES. Something had to give. And, well, it did.
According to PMA, industry buying cycles and technology developments have driven the show to a September date instead of residing in the post-holiday and post-CES season. As a result, PMA 2011 will take place from September 8-10, 2011. And, better still, it’s back at the Las Vegas Convention Center. I’ll be there with bells on.
It will be interesting to see the impact on other photo trade shows around the same time of year, such as PDN Photo Plus on the East Coast. No word though on what happens in 2012, which would put a September PMA dangerously close to Photokina.

Samsung TL500 Hands-On Review
One of the flagship announcements at PMA 2010 was the Samsung TL500, which is a serious point and shoot camera that matches up well against the popular Canon G11. I had to opportunity to spend a little time with a preproduction TL500 while at PMA 2010. As with other prepoduction models that I encountered, I was not allowed to bring back sample images or video to share with you.
The TL500 packs a 10MP 1/1.7″ CCD sensor and a 3x optical zoom lens, which has an f/1.8 max aperture on the wide end. When zoomed out to full tele, the max aperture becomes f/2.4. In addition to the headline bright aperture lens, the TL500 also touts a beautiful, swiveling 3-inch AMOLED screen.
