This is the first leaked photo of the upcoming Olympus PEN E-PL7. The camera is expected to be announced on August 30 and should replace the aging Olympus PEN E-PL5 in the US. (The PEN E-PL6 was an Asian market-only camera.)

Based on previously leaked portions of the user manual, the camera is believed to feature a 16MP Micro Four Thirds sensor with an 81-point AF system. Note that the design adds a dial around the shutter button similar to the OM-D camera designs. [Read more…]

Astrophotography – New Book

August 15, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Astrophotography

Astrophotography is a new book from astrophotographer Thierry Legault.

In the book, “world-renowned astrophotographer Thierry Legault teaches the art and techniques of astrophotography: from simple camera-on-tripod night-scene imaging of constellations, star trails, eclipses, artificial satellites, and polar auroras to more intensive astrophotography using specialized equipment for lunar, planetary, solar, and deep-sky imaging. Legault shares advice on equipment and guides you through techniques to capture and process your images to achieve spectacular results.

This book provides the most thorough treatment of the topic available. This large-format, richly illustrated book is intended for all sky enthusiasts—newcomers and veterans alike.”

Astrophotography retails for $39.95; however, it is currently available for $24.84 on Amazon.com.

It is also available for $17.99 as a Kindle book.

Watch This Stunning Timelapse of Scenes in Paris

August 15, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Paul Richardson spent three weeks in Paris recently and tried to capture the city’s classic sights as well as the modern business side. While he captured some fantastic scenes, his editing really made this timelapse stand out.

He spent three weeks shooting, followed by 5 weeks of editing the images and footage for a grand total of about 400 hours on this project. That is 2.5 hours for every second of this video, which was entirely self-funded and shot purely out of his love for timelapse.

He shot the video using a Canon 6D, EF 17-40mm f/4 lens, 50mm f/1.8 lens and 70-200mm f/4 L lens. He used a homemade dolly coupled to an eMotimo TB3 for the motion control sequences.

I’m pretty sure that I said “holy crap” out loud at the 1:10-1:20 mark on my first time through. Solid work Paul.

You can find Paul here on his Facebook page.
