Can You Spot a Counterfeit Canon Battery, Charger or Grip?

March 4, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Canon Counterfeit-4

For the past several tradeshows that I have been to, Canon has featured a great little display that asks you to identify counterfeit Canon products placed alongside genuine Canon products. The counterfeits look so convincing that I could not tell one from the other without further tips from Canon on spotting the differences.

You can see the counterfeit products highlighted in red in the image below. [Read more…]

March 3, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Red Dragon Upgrade

The 36MP full frame Nikon D800E has been the top dog sensor according to DxO Mark since the camera was first tested back in February 2012. That is, until DxO Mark put the new 6K RED Epic Dragon sensor to the test. The 19MP APS-H sized sensor from the Epic Dragon was the first to break the 100-point barrier on the DxO Mark score. Feature Request: “Favorite Projects List” on Welcome Screen in Premiere Pro

March 2, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Adobe Premiere Pro Welcome Screen

Every now and then I have a good idea – or at least one that I think is good. Adobe is one of those companies that lets you take your “good ideas” straight to the product teams with a publicly available Feature Request Form.

I probably spend more time in Premiere Pro (the new Creative Cloud version) these days than any other Adobe application, with Lightroom, Media Encoder and Photoshop being next in the list. Premiere Pro is one application that has a truly useful Welcome screen; however, I think it could be better. [Read more…]

SanDisk ‘4K-Ready’ Extreme Pro SD UHS-II Cards Now Available for Pre-Order

March 1, 2014 By Eric Reagan

SanDisk_Extreme_PRO_SDXC_280MBs_NoClass_Front_64GB_HR

SanDisk’s new high-speed Extreme Pro UHS-II cards are now available for pre-order.

Recall that this new line gets its major speed boost from the UHS-II bus interface. Most SD-compatible cameras currently on the market support UHS-I, at best. The only camera so far to support UHS-II is the new Fuji X-T1.

The new SanDisk UHS-II cards offer write speeds up to 250MB/s and read speeds up to 280MB/s. The Speed Class 3 rating delivers a minimum sustained write speed of 30MB/s, which is relevant to video shooters since it allows capture of the compressed 4K video formats we are starting to see on cameras. Expect this to become a bigger theme this year. [Read more…]
