Tamron 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Lens Patent

Tamron has filed a patent for a 150-600mm f/5-6.3 lens, which would presumably feature Tamron’s Vibration Compensation. The big telephoto zoom lens would be the longest reaching zoom lens in Tamron’s lineup if/when it is released – taking the title from the current sub-$1000 Tamron 200-500mm f/5-6.3, which it would likely replace.

Sigma has a similar lens with its 150-500mm f/5-6.3 OS model priced at just over $1000, which should give us an idea of the price range we might see the Tamron at if to comes to life. Given that it’s a new model and the extended reach, I’d put the price range somewhere between $1200-$1400 if I were betting on it.

Sony RX1 Hands-On
While “hands-on” might be a bit of a stretch for this article, I wanted to pass along my thoughts from actually putting my hands on the Sony RX1 at PhotoPlus 2012 today – even though the camera didn’t have a battery in it because Sony didn’t want to show off the camera without final firmware.
That said, the RX1 is unbelievably small. As I held it, I just kept thinking about how incredibly compact they managed to put together a full frame camera. With cameras like the RX1 (and even other models like NEX or Canon’s new EOS M), there is no longer a need to sacrifice image quality for camera size. [Read more…]
Samsung Galaxy Camera Hands-On

I had my first chance to go hands-on with the Samsung Galaxy Camera at PhotoPlus 2012. For those unfamiliar with the new camera, it is an Android-powered hybrid of a camera that is somewhere between a point and shoot camera and a smartphone. The Galaxy Camera runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and all of the camera functions are built-in the Android system. [Read more…]
