All recent rumors point to 3 key cameras for Canon in 2013 – the 7D Mark II, 70D and Rebel T5i. The latest rumors on the Canon front, however, point to even further out into 2014.
The oft-rumored high-MP Canon DSLR seems to be trending toward a 2014 launch date instead of this year. Rumored sensor sizes are 40MP or better on a full frame chip for the EOS-1 series body.
Additional rumors point to a quicker-turnaround for the 5D Mark III than we saw in the last generation – perhaps as early as 2014. The 5D X (or whatever the camera would be called) would likely see a marginal kick in specs as compared to the jump in performance we saw from the 5D Mark II to the 5D Mark III.

Canon Rumors picked up on a juicy tip from a “very reliable source” with regard to Canon’s roadmap for 2013.
The key points?
3 New DSLRs: Two are entry-level and one is mid-level. The likely suspects are a Canon Rebel T5i and 70D filling the entry-level roles and a 7D Mark II (the original 7D is pushing 4 years old now) taking on the mid-level announcement. Some of the more recent rumors have put the 7D Mark II with a 24MP sensor and a February announcement date.
New EOS-M Mirrorless Camera: This has been rumored for quite some time and would almost certainly be an easy guess with a rumor/leak. The question is whether Canon has learned from the mistakes on the current EOS-M model and will deliver a successor that’s worth the effort.
4 New EF Lenses: Unknown which exact ones will debut this year, but the EF 100-400L IS lens is begging for a replacement.

Several rumors of upcoming Canon DSLRs appeared in a Japanese magazine, along with what appears to be confidence ratings on the chance that they’ll surface in 2013. Atop the list are the Canon 70D and 7D Mark II with a 70% and 85% likelihood chance, respectively, that we’ll see them this year as obvious replacements to the current Canon 60D and 7D. Key rumored specs for the 70D and 7D Mark II include a 24MP APS-C sensor and sensitivity up to ISO 25,600. [Read more…]

Northlight Images received word that a Canon 7D Mark II is in the works for early 2013 – possibly at or around CES 2013. Rumored specs for the 7D Mark II include a frame rate of 10fps and an APS-C sensor of “no more” than 25MP.
Additionally, the current 7D may remain in the lineup (with a price drop) in lieu of a 70D to serve as a replacement for the 60D.

The latest rumors for the Canon 7D Mark II suggest a 24MP sensor. There’s no mention of sensor size though – with past rumors suggesting that a Canon 70D would fill the top APS-C spot in Canon’s lineup, while the 7D Mark II would become a low-end full frame camera.
The recent release of the Canon 7D firmware upgrade seems a bit at odds with such a release this fall; however, the original 7D is now 3 years old, which puts it in the range for a hardware update based on Canon’s history. [Read more…]

Northlight Images has received some new information concerning a cheaper full frame Canon DSLR. Rumors suggest either an 18MP sensor or a 22MP sensor, which leads to further speculation of a repurposed Canon 1D X or Canon 5D Mark III sensor, respectively.
Additional specs make the new model look a lot more like a full frame iteration of the Canon 7D, as opposed to the 5D Mark III. A smaller overall body design with a built-in flash would make it more of a prosumer design.
Other rumored features are as follows: [Read more…]

After the leaky Nikon D600 made its recent waves, rumors of the next generation of the Canon 7D emerged as its potential as a full-frame shooter on the lower end of Canon’s arsenal.
Additional rumors suggest that a Canon 70D would serve as a replacement for both the existing 60D and 7D APS-C models – thus making the 70D the top tier APS-C camera from Canon.
No other specs seem to have emerged in the rumor mill thus far. Both cameras are rumored for an announcement around Photokina 2012 in September.
