Canon 7D Mark II, a 40+MP DSLR and New Mirrorless Camera Coming in Early 2013?

November 18, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon 7D Mark II Rumors

With 2013 bearing down on us, it’s only natural for rumors of new cameras to start making their way to the surface. When the Canon 7D Mark II didn’t make an appearance at Photokina 2012 back in September, new rumors pointing toward 2013 started trickling out. And, again, the latest rumors point to an early 2013 announcement date for such a camera. [Read more…]

Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS & EF 35mm f/2 IS Lenses Confirmed

November 5, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS & EF 35mm f/2 IS

The recently-rumored Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS has been confirmed through an image and spec leak alongside a new EF 35mm f/2 IS lens.  Additionally, the EF 24-70mm f/4L IS lens will be a kit lens for the Canon 6D, which should ship in December.  Apparently, the rumored 50mm f/1.4 IS lens will not be making its way out this round.

The EF 24-70mm f/4L IS lens may end up replacing the current 24-105mm f/4L IS as the defacto kit lens for other full frame DSLRs going forward.  That’s just speculation; however, the lenses completely overlap.  Of course, some will deride a decision to go with the shorter lens as compared to the longer reach offered by the 24-105mm version; however, there’s no denying the reduced footprint and weight around your neck offered by the 24-70mm f/4L IS.

The 24-70mm f/4L IS lens is believed to weigh only 600g, while the 24-105mm f/4L IS weighs in at 670g.  Likewise, the 24-70 is believed to be 93mm max length, while the 24-105  max length is 107mm. [Read more…]

New Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 IS Lens Coming Soon?

November 5, 2012 By Eric Reagan

The Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM has been around for a long time; however, new rumors point to a possible replacement with Image Stabilization coming in the near future.  A rumored price point of $799 has been suggested (compare to $339 for the current version with rebates).

Additionally, pricing of $849 for the rumored Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS lens has been thrown out as well.

Canon EF 24-70 f/4L IS Lens “On the Horizon”

October 31, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon 24-70mm f4 IS Rumors

After the rumor about a 24-70mm f/2.8L IS lens from Canon a couple days ago, Canon Rumors is now tweaking that rumor with “reliable” info on a f/4 version of that lens.  Apparently, the f/4 version of the lens is on the horizon and could be arriving soon.

Seems like an odd lens to add to the mix, particularly with the solid 24-105mm f/4L IS that’s been selling like hotcakes since its release.  Of course, if the sharpness improvements are as substantial as the 24-70mm f/2.8L II were over the lens it replaced, a smaller and lighter lens might serve as a replacement and more directly compliment the popular 70-200mm lineup.

What would you think about a stabilized 24-70mm f/4L IS lens?  What would be the right price point for you?

Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L IS Rumors

October 30, 2012 By Eric Reagan

After the recently-introduced Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II lens, we are now starting to hear rumors of a version of this lens with image stabilization.  Of course, rumors of such a lens have been around for quite some time now, but Canon Rumors has received additional tips recently that point to a possibility that the lens could be in the pipeline.

Tamron has a stabilized 24-70mm f/2.8 lens that has received quite a bit of praise.  Who would be interested in a stabilized version of this lens directly from Canon?  What would be the right price point for you to pull the trigger?

Canon 7D Mark II Rumors Heating Up, Possibly Due in Jan. 2013

October 8, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon 7D Mark II

Northlight Images received word that a Canon 7D Mark II is in the works for early 2013 – possibly at or around CES 2013.    Rumored specs for the 7D Mark II include a frame rate of 10fps and an APS-C sensor of “no more” than 25MP.

Additionally, the current 7D may remain in the lineup (with a price drop) in lieu of a 70D to serve as a replacement for the 60D.

Canon EOS-1S Rumored as Big MP $9k DSLR?

October 6, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon EOS 1S

Several recent rumors suggested that the upcoming 46MP behemoth from Canon would not be named the “3D” and would actually eschew the “D” moniker from the naming scheme altogether.  The latest word coming in over at Canon Rumors offers up the EOS-1S as the name of the rumored flagship high MP DSLR.

As I’ve previously said, I think it makes sense to lose the “D” for digital naming scheme at this point in Canon’s SLR lineup. What better point to start than at the top with a new flagship, high resolution camera? [Read more…]

Canon 1 Series Rumors

Rumors for Canon’s upcoming high MP DSLR suggest that it will essentially be on the same level as a Canon 1-Series DSLR according to the latest tips coming in at Northlight Images.  However, there is still no solid info on whether the camera would carry a 1-Series designation alongside the 1D X and 1D C.

Recall that earlier rumors pointed to a 46MP full frame DSLR to be unveiled at PhotoPlus in October 2012 and it was previously rumored to be dubbed the 3D; however, that naming designation no longer seems to hold water. [Read more…]

Upcoming Canon DSLR to Top Nikon D800 and Rival Medium Format in Resolution and Dynamic Range?

September 27, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon Rumors

The Nikon D800 and its 36MP of resolution has sort-of overshadowed Canon’s “lowly” 22MP 5D Mark III in both the resolution and dynamic range department since the cameras were announced earlier this year.  If rumors have it right though, Canon’s response could be a throwdown of both the resolution and dynamic range gauntlet later this year.
