Nikon D800 Sensor Confirmed as “Made by Sony”

September 3, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Nikon D800

It’s been no secret that Sony is a major supplier of sensors in past Nikon DSLRs.  With the past few generations of DSLRs, however, Nikon has been rather coy about the sourcing of the actual sensors within the cameras.  When asked, Nikon reps usually respond by saying the sensor is “designed by Nikon” and refuse to provide further details on who actually makes the sensor. Nikon D600: A Cross Between the D800 and D7000

August 7, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Rumors of the Nikon D600 have really been heating up over the past several weeks in the lead up to Photokina 2012.  We’ve already seen leaked images of the D600.  And rumored specs indicate that the D600 will be a 24MP full frame camera.

The latest lot of size and feature comparisons suggest that the D600 will be more akin to the D7000 in size and ergonomics even though it will borrow feature upgrades from the D800 as the junior full frame DLSR in Nikon’s lineup. [Read more…]

Canon 1D X In-Stock Soon?

July 3, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon 1D X

Several sources around the web are reporting that US retailers will be getting their first shipments of the Canon 1D X this week.  While you shouldn’t expect to see 1D X actually in stock this week, this is a good sign that pre-orders will start being fulfilled on this long-delayed camera.

This also means that we’ll start seeing some real-world usage from the 1D X filter onto the web.  It’s been a long time since I first got hands on the 1D X back in October 2011.  I sure didn’t think that it would be nearly nine months later before the camera shipped.

Nikon D600 Specs Update

May 24, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Nikon D600

Nikon Rumors has posted an update list of specifications for the rumored-to-be-coming-soon, full frame Nikon D600.  Notably, Nikon Rumors seems rather confident that the previously rumored absence of an AF motor is not true and that the D600 will, indeed, feature a built-in AF motor for legacy Nikon AF lenses.

Nikon D600, Cheaper Full Frame Camera Rumored

May 12, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Nikon D600

The Nikon D600 may be the camera that a lot of prosumer shooters have been waiting for . . . that is, if rumors of its specs and price point turn out to be true.  Nikon Rumors has posted rumored specifications of a 24MP full frame D600 set to be released later this summer (pre-Photokina, which is in September).

The big kicker though is a price point that is rumored to be as low as $1500 (half the price Nikon D800).  This would open up full frame cameras to a whole new market.

Key rumored specs include:

  • 24MP CMOS sensor (manufactured by Sony)
  • HD video capture
  • 39 AF points
  • 5fps
  • Dual SD card slots (with Eye-Fi support)
  • 1/250s flash sync
  • Built-in GPS
  • No internal AF motor (autofocusing w/ AF-S lenses only)

What do you think?  Would those of you considering APS-C cameras like the D7000 or D300s/D400 be interested in a D600 with the above specs?
