How to Photograph on a White Background

March 25, 2016 By Eric Reagan

Jay P. Morgan shows us how he shot 40 photos of dentists on a white background in this latest video from The Slanted Lens. The shoot runs like a well oiled machine thanks to the pre-production work and having the right vision going into it. Even if you aren’t doing something to the scale of 40 setups in a single day, the lessons in planning in this video are just as important to me as the lighting tips.

Lightroom Coffee Break: Using Shortcuts for Quick and Easy Straightening

March 18, 2016 By Eric Reagan

In the latest Lightroom Coffee Break episode, we get a great tip for using a modifier key with a mouse click to quickly straighten a photo in Lightroom.

When you are in the crop mode, all you have to do is hold down Command (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) and click and drag along the horizon or other straight feature that you want to be level in the image. Lightroom automatically uses the level tool to straighten the image based on your selection.

Hi everyone! My name is Krisnha. My pic “Milk & Cookies” was the lead photo on the December 13, 2015 Reader Photos Roundup. Eric asked me if i want to talked about the picture and a little bit about me for Photography Bay, and without hesitation I said yes.

Let me start a little bit about me. I am from Bali, Indonesia. I used to live in the US but recently I moved back to my country. Photography started as a hobby for me and it grew to a stress reliever, and now I’m a full-time photographer.

I like to experiment on things. I see new technique and I try to copy it with a twist. I see a poster of film I like, I try to emulate it at home. I like using artificial light and a heavy strobist believer (hahaha).

And now about that picture “Milk & Cookies.” [Read more…]

6 Tips to Make Your Holiday Pictures Sing

As the well-known advertising jingle says, the holidays are coming. A time when families get together, eat, drink, be merry and generally have a whale of a time. So there’s no better time to whip out the phone and start capturing images of the frivolity.

If you want to get great pictures though, there are a couple of things you should think about first – just because your camera is a phone, doesn’t mean it can’t capture great images – far from it, you just need to start treating it like a camera.
