iStick Adds a Simple USB Drive for iPhone and iPad

May 26, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Hyper iStick

Today’s mobile phones and tablets are simply amazing. However, if there’s one gripe I have, it is the ability to quickly and seamlessly transfer data between my phone and mobile devices. About the simplest way to just transfer a file without the need to import through a dedicated program is a cloud sharing platform like Dropbox. I use the heck out of it.

Dropbox, Box and Google Drive all work great until you need to make a big file transfer on a cellular network and you are in a place where your coverage is limited. Then, you could be spending minutes staring at a screen. Or, you have to plug your phone into a computer and jump through a program’s import process.

The Hyper iStick looks like it may be nice stop-gap until Pied Piper finishes up its revolutionary compression algorithm.  [Read more…]

Lightroom mobile for iPad

Adobe has finally launched Lightroom mobile for iPad after teasing the app for the better part of a year. Before we get to the features, some readers will want to know up front that it is only available for Creative Cloud members. If you are part of the Photoshop Photography Program or a full Creative Cloud subscriber, Lightroom mobile is available to you at no additional expense.

Lightroom mobile now allows you to sync your iPad with your Lightroom 5 desktop library. Lightroom mobile uses Smart Previews to allow you to make non-destructive edits on your iPad, which will then sync to your desktop library.

Lightroom mobile requires an iPad 2 or later running iOS 7. You can download it here on the iTunes App Store. Adobe also notes that an iPhone version is coming soon. [Read more…]

I’ll be the first to admit that I snicker a bit at the iPad-ographers of the world. It seems like every public event I go to anymore, someone is shooting video or snapping photos with a massive iPad. [Read more…]

Voice-Driven Photo Editing from Adobe

February 13, 2013 By Eric Reagan

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2KeluYrHJk&w=640&h=360]

Check out the above video for a sneak peak on some of the work being done by Adobe Research and the University of Michigan. PixelTone is an experimental interface for image editing.

Photo editing can be a challenging task, and it becomes even more difficult on the small, portable screens of mobile devices that are now frequently used to capture and edit images. To address this problem we present PIXELTONE, a multimodal photo editing interface that combines speech and direct manipulation. We observe existing image editing practices and derive a set of principles that guide our design. In particular, we use natural language for expressing desired changes to an image, and sketching to localize these changes to specific regions.

You can read more on PixelTone in a 9-page research paper that documents the development of this multimodel interface.
