Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.8G DX Lens

New rumors suggest that Nikon will announce a 35mm f/1.8 lens for FX format cameras for CES 2014. This lens would serve as a complement to the 35mm f/1.8G DX lens (pictured above) and sit under the higher-end 35mm f/1.4G FX lens. It also may mark the end of the old 35mm f/2D, but I doubt the price stays around the $360 mark of the 35mm f/2.

The most recent firmware updates for the Nikon D3100, D3200, D5100, D5200 and P7700 appear to have caused some third-party batteries to stop working in these cameras. All of the cameras use the Nikon EN-EL14 and EN-EL14a batteries; however, there are many third-party batteries that match the EN-EL14’s design that are available for these cameras (often at reduced prices) as well. I ran across this crazy setup at the Nikon booth at PhotoPlus 2013. This is a Nikon D5200 equipped with the FSA-L2 field scope adapter and the Nikon EDG VR Fieldscope 20-60×85 spotting scope.

This combo produces a 750-2,625mm equivalent field of view on the Nikon D5200 (taking into account the 1.5x crop factor). [Read more…]

Nikon D3300 Leaked?

Images of the Nikon D3300 showed up on Nikon Rumors thanks to an anonymous tipster. The images, if legit, show that the D3300 is essentially the same design as the D3200 (no surprise there).

The Nikon D3200 was announce back in April 2013, so it’s not quite time for the D3300 to officially drop; however, I wouldn’t be surprised if the D3300 showed up at CES 2014.

Apple Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.01 for OS X Mavericks

Apple has issued an update to Digital Camera RAW to version 5.01, which adds RAW image compatibility for several new cameras in Aperture 3.5 and iPhoto.
