B&H has the GigaPan EPIC 100 robotic panorama mount for $429 (reg. $479) through February 10. The EPIC 100 is compatible with large point and shoot cameras, mirrorless cameras and small DSLRs up to 3lbs total weight. Check it out here at B&H Photo.

Here’s a 187MP Panorama from the Canon 5Ds R

The weather was crappy yesterday but I had to take a shot at heading out to the Smokies for one more look at the fall colors. It’s past peak and the atmosphere was pea soup in most places but I stopped at an overlook and shot a 9 frame panorama with the Canon 5Ds R and EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM lens, which you can see above.

The overall file size is 136.5MP for the exported JPEG and is 25,910 x 7,215 pixels (after stitching and cropping) for a whopping 186.94MP image. The stitched panorama Lightroom DNG file is 781.3MB with individual RAW files that make up the panorama weighing in at around 64MB each. Those 50MP files add up quick… [Read more…]

Sony Cyber-shot WX5

The Sony Cyber-shot WX5 is the more traditionally designed sibling to the Sony TX9.  Like its touchscreen sibling, the WX5 features a 12.2-megapixel backlit CMOS sensor and is powered by Sony’s BIONZ processor.  The WX5 features a 5x optical zoom (24-120mm equivalent) with Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, and offers a sensitivity range of ISO 125-3200.   [Read more…]

AutoStitch 3.0 Steps Up Panoramic Photography on iPhone

iPhone photographers are getting improvements in panoramic efforts with the latest version of the AutoStitch iPhone app.  You can use AutoStitch 3.0 to create iPhone panoramic images up to 20MP in size.  The app will also adjust for brightness variations across a range of images.  AutoStitch 3.0 also allows you to share your images on Facebook or via email from within the app.

AutoStitch 3.0 runs $2.99 and is available through the App Store in the Photography category. The full App Store name is AutoStitch Panorama.

Gigapan EPIC Pro Now Available

Earlier this week, Gigapan announced the upcoming availability of the new EPIC Pro robotic panoramic mount for DSLRs with an expected release date of next month.  I just got word from Gigapan that the EPIC is already available and in stock.

GigaPan EPIC Models Launched

GigaPan is introducing several new EPIC robotic, panorama mounts today.  If you aren’t familiar with GigaPan products, these mounts allow you to make massive multi-gigapixel images with your camera by capturing literally hundreds of images that are stitched together in post-processing software.  Popular images shot with the GigaPan system include the Obama Inauguration and the 2009 World Series.

The GigaPan EPIC and EPIC 100 are slated for use with point and shoot cameras and smaller DSLRs.  Both models are currently available at gigapansystems.com for $349 and $449, respectively.

The GigaPan EPIC Pro is designed to work with DSLRs are larger lenses with up to a 10 lbs combined weight.  The EPIC Pro should be available in April 2010 for $895 from gigapansystems.com.

All GigaPan EPIC models come with GigaPan Stitch, which “automatically combines and blends hundreds of photos into one seamless gigapixel panorama, then uploads it to GigaPan.com, where users can zoom into the detail, discover, explore and share.”
